Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?

We have had a yellow lab for 14 years and she's at the end of her years. I adore her, but she is a shedder. My parents have a standard poodle and I realized that the best of all worlds would be a smoother softer golden retriever mixed with the poodle.
