My name is Katharine and I live in Clifton Park and have 3 doodles. Please check out my facebook page Crazy for Doodles-Capital Area Doodle Lovers.
Your doodles are lovely and you live pretty close to me! I saw your discussion about breeding the doodle and I work for a breeder whelping litters and raising the pups--I can't stress enough the importance of knowing what you are doing before you do it. You can get good money for doodle pups, but people who spend that money are not stupid and expect you to do all the health testing first. Expect to spend upwards of $1000 for those tests plus the cost of driving to vets that so the tests.
There is also a stud fee that could be $2000 if it is a decent health tested stud. Then there are the vet bills that come with breeding and the pups need to be wormed, checked by the vet, vaccinated, etc. Oh, and do you have a whleping box? How about an exercise pen for the puppies when they are too big for the box? It goes on and on...It is hard to break even unless you have many dogs that can be bred. On the other hand, it is fun (But a LOT of work!!) to raise pups as long as you don't mind losing some money on the deal.
Of course, that is all assuming that you have permission to breed your female--most breeders insist on spaying because they "own" the genetics--if you signed a contract stating that then you could be sued for breeding your dog.
Let me know if you have any other questions or would like to call me--I am just about 45 minutes from you.
