Welcome to the NorCal group at DK. Looks like you are hopping right in. I also have an ALD and look forward to meeting you and your doodle in the future. We are down at Carmel Beach if you are ever down this way.
Hi Joyce ~ Your little Abby is so precious. I just love your profile picture. We have 2 medium size ALDS - Charlie Brown (chocolate) was 2 in Dec and Beau who was 5 mos old yesterday is a parti. They have the same sire, but different mothers.
I notice you started a discussion about erratic sleep behavior, and I think it is most likely that you little one does not want to be alone. Charlie has slept above my pillow since day 2 of being home because he was needed to be near us and I wanted a a special bond with him. He has always been like an "old soul" and he is my heart dog for sure. Beau was baby gated right off our bedroom in our bath where he could hear and see us and he never cried at night. I guess we were lucky, but then he is more independent that Charlie. Ours were both crate trained when we brought them home, but I chose not to go that route.
Beau generally puts himself to bed at 9 p.m. almost like clock work. We look around and he has disappeared and gone to his bed in the bathroom. My husband gets up on 6:15 and Beau likes to go out to potty and then he comes back in and jumps up on the bed with Charlie and me and sleeps until 7:30 or 8.
It sounds like you have a very active little girl. Mine are both quite laid back. Charlie is a definite couch potatoe and love to watch tv. He will only walk about 15 minutes and then sits down because he wants to go back home. His idea of exercise is chasing balls on our property. Beau loves to walk, but he too is only walking about 45 min a day and he gets home and crashes! So I guess it depends on the puppy and a person's lifestyle.
Is your breeder in CA, or perhaps WA state? Just wondering. She is beautiful.
When you get a chance be sure to check out the groups section on the main page and join as many as you like. There are over 375 groups and there is a very active photography group, gardening groups, food group, a group called puppy madness which may be of interest to you since Abby is still a puppy and many breeder groups. Welcome to Doodle Kisses!
