Professor, kids aged 21 and 17. When I got my doodles, our old lab cross had just died (at almost 18). I have "part custody" of a 9-year-old golden retriever, but he had been spending longer and longer at his other home. I used to run with my dogs, but my knees won't take it any more. I wanted a slightly smaller dog that would still get me out of the house; I liked the golden retriever temperament. It's nice to own a dog who likes all other dogs and people, and who can go anywhere, and it's great to have a dog who is smart enough to be trained and figure things out.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Two miniature Labradoodles, brother and sister: Penny (now age 2) and Rudy (now age 2). While searching for a golden doodle pup on line, I was contacted by Ann Bankert, breeder of miniature and medium labradoodles. She wanted to know if I would be interested in adult dogs--the more I thought about it, the better that sounded! I ended up with two--they are so small, together they make up less than the mass of what I thought I would be getting! We drove up to eastern British Columbia to get them from Ann (Avonlee Labradoodles). They are multigen Australian labradoodles backcrosssed to a mini poodle. They are red, curly, non-shedding, smart, cheerful, and loving dogs. Penny and Rudy moved into a house with 2 Maine Coon cats; they are all good friends now. Having two is great, as they love to play with each other and don't get lonely. Also, these are by far the smartest dogs I have ever owned. They are very adaptable--they had learned to love hikes, kayak trips, car rides, cats, obedience class, the beach--all things they had rarely or never known before.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Temperament and reputation. I wanted a smaller dog (compared to my golden retriever) with a friendly and loving personality, that would also be smart. I ended up with 2 very small, very happy and cheerful Labradoodles.

Hi Kate. Yes, hurray for Avonlee indeed! We have been so happy with them. Finn is a dream. I remember viewing your 'kayak' photo on the web-site around the time we were looking for Finn, and we both said, 'I wanna do that!' Rudy and Penny look super-cute, very pretty colouring and you groom them yourselves - how brave!
Hey, welcome Rudy and Penny! I too am the happy owner of an adorable Avonlee baby; check out Finn's page and blog. Your two babies look adorable. Look forward to seeing more pictures.
Hi Kate and welcome to Doodle Kisses! Penny and Rudy are adorable and look so similar! Even with doodle siblings it's hard to find two that look like twins!
