Updates on Rusty 9 weeks old

We have had Rusty a little over a week now and he is doing great. He is sleeping in his crate from 11 - 6:45 with no accidents and he has learned to sit ( still movitated by treats but doing it). He is bitting a lot now so we have bought lots of toys to keep him happy. He is eating Wellenss brand and loves it.

Hi! Rusty is sooooo cute! What an adorable puppy. Its funny, Marley is from Manor Lake, just north of Seattle. He just hit 19 pounds! His parents were a medium muti gen and a standard multi gen. We are thinking he will be about 40 pounds as well. Originally, I thougth he would be smaller because he was so teeny tiny when he arrived -- only 5 pounds, but he is growing like a weed!

The program I used is not suitable for puppies under six months. Your puppy, at three months, is simply a normal puppy. Chances are, that your puppy will grow out of it simply by you being consistent and not rewarding it with attention when it nips you. Sit down with your puppy, and let it play with your hands and yelp loudly in pain when it nips. As soon as you yelp, get up and leave and close the door behind you and stay " invisible" for 10 to 15 seconds. Return and try again. Once it stops using its teeth hard, yelp simply for your puppy touching with its teeth. This will not stop the right away, but it will teach puppy that when it touches its teeth to humans it hurts because they are delicate and will no longer be his friend.

When puppy is just hyper, and starts biting out of nowhere, simply redirect the puppy by giving it an appropriate chew toy or tossing a toy for it to chase. If he still goes after you, yelp again but put him in his crate.

She's been groomed twice, though she's had her nails clipped a few times. She was scheduled for a grooming on December 18th but I cancelled since she goes to the park most every day and gets quite dirty. I usually put her into the sink and wash her feet, though on Sunday she got a full bath, since she was rollicking in the mud!! She needs a grooming now, though, because I can barely see her eyes. I think I'll try to wait another couple of weeks before getting her groomed again.

Rusty's adorable! As for the leash training, now that Emma is almost 7 months, she is definitely getting better, though still doesn't heel. Also, when she gets bored with walking, she'll grab the leash. The trainer said that when she does that, to just stop and eventually she'll start walking again . . . that said, we still need training with the leash and I'm considering using an Easy Walker with her if she doesn't improve. I think that since she's still young (as is your Rusty), eventually they'll "get" it.

aww he is such a cutie! and yes, oliver is going to be a big boy :) from the looks of your pups paws, he should be on the small-medium side? to answer your question, oliver walks well on the leash when we're outside at a park, etc and it's just the 2 of us. but when we walk in a store (like petsmart, etc.) he goes wild...so we're currently trying to work on that and a few ppl on doodlekisses have suggested getting a gentle harness leader. feel free to check out my blogs which i update weekly with his progress/problems, etc. :) and congrats on your new baby!
