Does anyone have any experience with a Goldendoodle and MVD? I am looking at adopting one with a Grade 4/6 Murmur and secondary mitral regurgitation. Specifically, can a dog like this be put under…Continue

The thing is, there is no reason to breed doodles other than to sell puppies. You can't show them, you can;t put a championship on them (you could, in obedience, but these breeders don't care about that), all you can do is make money. And you know what kind of money they are making, I'm sure. Most of them paying their mortagages and feeding their families from selling puppies, so eliminating a dog from their programs is a big deal for them. And no truly top-notch poodle, Lab, or Golden breeder will sell them a purebred from great lines to use for breeding mixes, so they are starting with not-such-great, healthy, sound stock to begin with. And then they are cutting corners on everything from food to vetting. So you are getting a lot of genetic diseases and dogs with health issues.
Irresponsible breeding for sure.
If you do take her, please be sure your vet sees all her records. Good luck.
Maria, I have worked in dog rescue for 15 years, and unfortunately, this is what happens when people breed dogs for money, And there is no other reason anyone is breeding doodles, sadly. You just happen to know about this one puppy, I hear of dozens of them every day. You can't worry about this one puppy, she is not your fault or your responsibility, and even iof you take her, there are dozens more just like here in every part of the country. Are you going to save them all? I know it's hard, but sometimes we have to just let go.
Honestly, I would stay away form this breeder if i were you. Doodles have all kinds of health problems, so all you can do is get insurance and hope for the best, but i would not start out with a puppy who has a congenital heart defect. The prognosis is much worse for puppies than for dogs who get it later in life. And Golden Retrievers are known for having heart disease, which is why the good reputable breeders do genetic testing for heart problems on their breeding dogs. I have a dog with two difference genetic diseases who is uninsurable, and it is very difficult to manage his costs and his care.
I would keep trying to get ahold of your Cardiologist, and have the dog's records sent to him. Were there any problems with spaying your two dogs who have it?
Maria, I'm guessing that you are aware that MVD is very common in Cavaliers. Since you breed them, I am surprised that you didn't go to your vet with this question about the goldendoodle puppy.
