Grrrrr....

So Walter, my 12 week old miniature Goldendoodle, comes to work with me every day. Up until now he has always behaved like a true gentleman - but today he has turned into a little demon!!!!

Yesterday afternoon he discovered the joy of BARKING. I work in an office where people come up to a window to talk to our receptionist, as soon as he hears the door bell he takes off running from my office to go back at whoever is at the window in a "play with me" way. Most people think this is cute, however I DO NOT because this is such a bad habit he is developing.

Normally, he stays in his crate most of the day under my desk, we go out for quick potty breaks and he has some floor play time, but then I'll put him back in his crate to nap. But today he is just not having it, he is whining as soon as I put him in his crate. And he is crate trained! I feel like, in this sense, we are going back to week 9! LOL!

He's just being such a brat today - and I know he is just testing me to see what he can get away with. But, the little bugger is really testing my patience today!!!

....sorry I just needed to vent. :)

Apart from needing some basic obedience training he is at an age where he needs exercise.  Enough free play outdoors and walking to tire him.  He has more energy as he is past the stage of sleeping a lot during the day which all young puppies do and need. Join the puppy madness group and post there where you will get lots of help.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, I know he's just emerging from that wonderful time when puppies seem happy to sleep all the time. It was just such an abrupt change from one day to the next. I keep looking at him like "Who are you and what did you do with my calm docile puppy!" - looks like he is ready to start getting a long walk in the morning now as well as night!

I agree...I think exercise is going to be your best friend.  If you can give him a long walk in the morning and at lunch it will definitely help.

Totally agree.  The morning walk is crucial in my opinion.

The picture is absolutely adorable :)   Be persistant with your training, don't let him boss you around.  I had times where my doodles were crazy and I truly believe they were testing the waters.

You tell us he is a brat, then you post this picture and expect us to believe you ... This looks pretty innocent to me!

The picture is priceless!  How could anyone get mad/upset with him.

I always say, it's a good thing they are CUTE!  And, he is CUTE!  Good luck, yes, now starts the hardest part, training and finding the time to exercise him :)  Good luck, it will pass.

I can't tell you how many times I have said this to Sadie: Boy it's a good thing you're so ****ing cute!

He totally redeemed himself this afternoon. He finally laid down for a two hour nap and woke up back to the calm puppy I've always known. Just to be sure, we will go for a long walk tomorrow morning though!!!

He is too darn cute to be frustrated with anyway!!

There a no bad doods, just really cute doods that get away with a lot because of it.

This picture proves this theory.

Oh my goodness, Walter is adorable!  Me being a brat????  Not me says Walter :-)

Yes, Megan, they definitely change and need more exercise to keep from getting into mischief.  Traz will be 8 months old on January 8th and is going through the "teenage" months.  We received him when he was 4 months old.  Thanks to our doodle friends on this site, I am trying to get him tired out during the day so that he settles down when he is in the house.  He is getting into things that he never bothered before - ugh!  But, how can we get upset when Traz looks at us with those beautiful, loving eyes?  We can't.  Training and patience are the key defenses to these crazy times.  Doodle Kisses is a fabulous place to get answers to all your questions.  Good luck with Walter.  He's a handsome pup :-)
