Astro was neutered yesterday and his release instructions are...please sit down...3 days of confinement or very limited movement and 14 days of taking it very easy, leash walking and wearing a lamp shade. Ha! I think in DoodleWorld this is truly impossible. We have not even made it through the first 12 hours and he has jumped over the gate, jumped on the bed and rolled like a maniac in the grass and tried to chase the cat. REALLY 14 days of the lamp shade? Help!
Okay, any of you may think the cone is rough. I'm not naming names but this is a friend's dood after his surgery. He came home and for a few days did daily trips back to the vet for restitching or stapling. He even had to spend a few days at the vet knocked out with narcotics to try to heal. Finally they sent him home, yes, I know the photo quality is poor, but he had 2 cones and underwear and suspenders!!! Thought everyone needed a laugh!
Okay friends. I have uploaded two photos to our page. Hysterical. Put down your coffee b4 looking.
Lessons Learned:
1. If you can...have your pooch spend the first night of recovery at the vet. It will be easier for everyone.
2. Make sure you get some tranquilizers for the first few days. It will be better for everyone.
3. Get your puppy some briefs and have the camera ready.
Thank you everyone for ideas, suggestions and support.
Hey I get to join the crowd now. My only regret is that I live with 3 men, none of which own a pair of Spider Man Underwear :(
Thank you for the timely post and to all who responded on ideas of this subject. Home 2 hours now, so far so good. Happy, dopey NOT so Sleepy! Only 13.5 days to go, right? We were not given a lampshade. They didn't seem concerned. Hmmm
So glad our vet requested we wait as long as possible to have this done. We made it! Whew. Now I hope he never tries to lift his leg on strangers anymore.
Yvonne, hope your puppy is doing well!
Astro is doing great and after 5/6 days we can no longer keep him calm. He is exploding with energy. Tranquilizers might as well be scoobie snacks as they do nothing. Back to normal life...but checking his stiches often. All sees very good. Good luck with your pup. I think we may have started a new fad! Hugs and be well.
Day 2 for us and Spud is doing great. Yes, the pain killers might as well be scoobie snacks! LOL I think they make him misbehave. He is goofy, stealing couch cushions, dish towels and getting into everything. It is hard to ignore everything. I suppose, if he were really sick, he would not be doing all these bad things. I think he is just stoned and stupid--but will not relax
The underwear--well, I put them on and he went out. My husband asked if he should take them off and I said NO? He can pee without a mess because they are not covering that area. Well............... he had to poop too. You can guess the rest of the story.
Thanks for letting me know how Astro is doing. I was wondering. My vet said four days, your vet said 14 days. What the heck? Glad you have your dog back. Again, thanks for the timely post.
Question: Was he named after an old cartoon called Astro Boy? Was my favorite cartoon as a kid. I just loved the characters legs and arms.
Well, we like to say Astro from the Jetsons cartoon. But actually his entire litter was named/themed for Opening Day of Baseball (Born April 1st) so he was technically named after the baseball team. We liked the name and decided to keep it. My husband is a huge Yankee fan so he would only admit to the cartoon. Glad to hear Spud is doing well to. All the best!
