Honey was acting weird during the night...kept waking us up and wanting to get out of her crate. This morning she was fine but all of a sudden I saw her sitting on the floor in a weird way and then she was looking at something on the floor. I saw what looked like a piece of spaghetti on the floor, picked it up and knew it was a worm. I took it into my vet and they confirmed it. Gave me a powder to put on her food for 3 days and they said that should take care of it. So my questions are:

Anyone elses doodle have this issue?

How did she get it and can we prevent it from happening again?

How gross is this?? Or is it not that bad/pretty common?

Dogs can have several different types of worms, and it's fairly common, especially in puppies. In order to help figure out how Honey may have gotten them, we need to know what kind of worms she has. :)

Here's some info on the various types of intestinal worms dogs can have:

Annabelle had them at 5 months. Of course it was a Sunday morning when the vet is closed for the next 24 hours, that I noticed them. She never got them again. But it was kind of gross to deal with.

In this paper (2011)

The prevalence of endoparasites was evaluated in 619 dogs and 153 cats in the Calgary, Alberta region. Both homed and shelter-sourced pets were evaluated, and prevalence was assessed in various age groups. The overall endoparasite prevalence was 16.5% in canine samples and 7.2% in feline samples. The most common intestinal parasites in dogs were Giardia (8.1%) and ascarids (4.2%).   https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3215466/
