A dear friend turned me on to these books a few years ago and they've been a terrific help to us as we've had conversations with our Vet regarding the care of our dogs. Thankfully, we have not had to have any critical health-related conversations yet, but these books will help us when the time comes & will hopefully help to prevent some issues, too. They are great for people raising puppies to those dealing with health care for geriatric dogs.

"Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" by James M. Giffin MD & Liisa D. Carlson, DVM - Very clear and simply written - covers almost any situation you could encounter in your Dog's health care. Terrific as a reference, particularly if you can't remember all the details/explanation the vet gave you once you are home. Even better to help you read up on issues and have meaningful conversations with the vet. The book is organized well and has terrific illustrations, too. If you only buy one, this is the one to get.

"Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" by Wendy Volhard & Kerry Brown, DVM - For those of us who know good health is not always achieved through injections or a bottle of pills. The book teaches you how to understand commercial dog food labels & know what they really mean; discusses the Natural Diet and how to prepare it; dog supplements and what they are all about; the problems of over vaccination and deciding which vaccinations are best for your dog & when; how to assess lab tests; and the basics of Homeopathy. There is also more information in the book, but these were the big take-aways for me.

These books are easily available on the web, we purchased ours at Amazon. Hope you find them as helpful as we do.
