Last night after we had finished watching the FINAL episode of Arrested Development (I didn't discover this insanely funny show till AFTER it went off the air and via Netflix have enjoyed every single episode) Clark nonchalantly tells me "something scary happened today."
Apparently the dogs were outside in our fully fenced backyard but Cass was barking just WAY too much...and then Thule piped in. So he followed their barking path and noticed where they were looking and then ... lo and behold...saw Rosco across the street!!! mingling with the neighbor's dogs across through their fence.
Somehow the gate was wide open to our yard and Rosco decided to go explore. Clark rushed out immediately and retrieved my favorite labradoodle ever (tied only with Thule) and brought him safely home. PHEW!
What's mind boggling is that the girls, Cass and Thule, didn't leave the yard. They just barked after him...LOL
Scary huh! And bad mommy Adina had Rosco's therapy visit collar on (which has NO tags because I don't want the Juvie kids to know where we live) instead of his collar with his tag.
Scariest thing in the world; it happens to all of us at some point. Thank goodness there was no harm done and Rosco is okay.
When it happened to me, Jack saw a strange dog across the street and went flying...right in front of a minivan! Thank goodness the driver saw him and slammed on the brakes. I was on the other side of the yard and didn't even know he was in the street until I heard the brakes screeching.
I think of it as the universe's way of reminding us to pay attention. I check those gates now every time we walk out into the yard.
Glad Rosco's okay, and you will be, too, lol!
Yeah, Clark and I check the gates visually (they can be seen through the back window) before letting dogs out 99% of the time. It has happened before where they snuck out to the next-door neighbor AT NIGHT. I was home then and really freaked out. The neighbor just kind of stood there...and I thought...have you NEVER SEEEEEN my dogs before? Why aren't you hauling their butts over??? We got them back quickly enough though. We have tenants that live in our basement and in a studio above our garage...that time it was a tenant who had inadvertently not closed the gate completely.
Glad it ended well. Good dogs of Cass and Thule not to leave the yard.......that is amazing:)
Yes, my neighbors and I are always on the look out for eachothers dogs. My son has a friend on the other side of the subdivision, and when their dog gets out, she ALWAYS comes to our house:)
Yeah...I was amazed that the girls stayed. It was almost as if they didn't realize the gate was closed...but they MUST have! When the gate is open and we are there they stand back...they don't try to make a run for it (any of them). But curiosity won out for Rosco when nobody was there I guess. It was one of the few times I was THANKFUL to hear they barked their heads off...they saved my Rosco!
They can climb anything with horizontal links... my britany/springer mix back home climbed over the 6ft chain link fence pen at 9 weeks old! We had to put chicken wire on top slanting in so she couldn't climb over that! Good Grief!
Thank goodness for happy endings!!! Our dogs have never left the yard but I worry all the time, and they are not out when no one is out with them. I did have 2 indoor cats in my last house and once found the sliding door downstairs open after a party (a guest must have left it opened). There they were my 2 environmentally retarded cats sitting just inside the open door making no motion to venture out. I think I heard Ollie tell Bailey "you go first, I'm right behind you" to which Bailey responded "no way, you first". That's just my guess though. Lisa
Oh I know how you feel. Thank goodness the other dogs barked to get Clark's attention.
Last year I came home from work to pull around the corner to see Jordan standing in the middle of the road! We have a "blind" corner so she could of been hit easily.
DH said he has no idea how she got out. He got an ear full anyways.
