Kachi, who is 7 months tomorrow, is now in beginner school, (he's already passed 'puppy socialization class') which means we are now in a class with 6 other potential playmates, only no one is letting him play! This drives him absolutely crazy!! The treats keep him interested, (because clearly, since he's a doodle, he masters the commands immediately) but the "I have to sit still while this training lady does nothing but talk" drives him crazy after awhile. So my normally "easy going, happy go lucky, pretty mellow most of time" guy, about 1/2 hour into class, announces he has had enough, by barking at his fellow classmates, rolling around on the ground trying to eat his leash, etc. He even does his 'look mommy right in the eye, bark so she knows I'm serious, and put her wrist in my mouth ' routine so I know that he wants to go home.

Seriously, I told my husband, "I now know what all those poor parents felt like who had the kids who were really bright, but got into mischief because school couldn't keep their interest!!" I'm like, "If there was a principals office, we would have been sent to it!"

Short of home-schooling, any advice?

I wish my trainer was available to everyone! I actually pay for my local customers to do training with him because he is that AWESOME!
Thank you! I am going to try your suggestions. Definitely, I will be finding a new trainer for our next level!
Oh yes, those were the days. Cayenne did the same thing except it was standing up and wanting to check out the other dogs, not barking. Class attendees were asked to bring in a blanket for the dog to lay on and a toy to play with. Can you do that?

I agree with the reply about changing classes to a more active class.

When I recover from our horrible last class experience and actually get remotivated to train again, I am going to look for something better. Our last instructor totally hated the designer dog idea and I got the brunt of her unimaginable and unprofessional attitude. I think I'm going to back to clicker training.

I also agree with tiring your dog out first. This was a help but I didn't always have time to do it.
