Our oldest Goldendoodle, Rozee. has always liked sleeping where it is chilly or cold. As a puppy it was behind the toilet, then when she couldn't fit there it was and is in the bathtub. What's with that? She also likes to sleep on the cold bricks in front of our wood stove (when it's off, of course). I even made a nice soft bed for her to go on top of the bricks- she pushed it aside and loves the bricks. Now our younger dog, Bella Pearl, is seeking out the same type of places. She goes out and sleeps on the cold cement in the garage. Now our house isn't hot - stays at about 65 degrees which means we (the humans) usually wear several layers. This just seems strange to us since none of our other dogs have done this. Do we just have "strange doods"?
Ever since my Rosco was a 8 week old pup he's preferred our hardwood floors and tile to anything soft and fluffy. He was one HOT bodied little guy! Once when he was 9-10 weeks i put a towel on the couch and plopped him up there with me in hopes he'd take a nap with me. Within 30 seconds he climbed off the couch and went back to a cool spot on the wood floor. His crate floor was always empty because he was more comfy without a bed or blanket.
Now at 2.5 years old he ENJOYS his dog bed...but that took about a year at least!
On warm nights, he's barked to go out (in the middle of the night) and I figured he had to go potty. Nope...several times he just flopped down on the cooool concrete section of our backyard and attempted to finish his sleep there!
Cool places are hard to come by around here ~ we live in Florida. BUT many a doodle in our home lounge on the floor of the shower, with or without the water running : )
Brody has already shown us he doesn't like warm places...in fact the cooler the better! He likes the hard wood floor and tile to the carpet or nice dog bed we got him. And when its potty time, as soon as he's done he will find the perfect spot and plop down in the nice cool grass. He rolls around until he finds the perfect position to get the most amount of "cool" on his belly! Its so cute...
I think they are naturally just warm dogs. I remember growing up our Golden would lay on the registers ALL the time...even in the winter...hoping that something cold would come out. Or dig in the dirt areas in the back yard to get to the cooler dirt below...then lay in that.
