We're bringing our puppy (F1 goldendoodle) home next week (yeah! we're so excited!). It's not winter yet, but I'm currently sitting on the couch looking out the front widow at the SNOW falling!! I'm in Idaho and am a bit worried about a puppy thinking I'm crazy to want him to go potty outside in the cold, wet weather. I'm really hoping the weather will warm up by next week so that we don't have to start housebreaking in the snow. Any thoughts/tips?
This is what I would of said. I also had a fall puppy. I had to deal with rain, and a lot of it. (Pac.NW)
I did grow up in WI and that is what we would do for the dogs.
Yes, I can't believe you have snow now!! We brought our doodle home in a blizard.............ugh!!!! What an ordeal, but all went well and never had a problem housebreaking her. I remember thinking the same thing, but she loved to be out in the snow, and because of this within 2 weeks of bringing her home was at the door asking to go out.....most of the time she just wanted to play in the snow:) She was fully trained in a total of 4 weeks.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm very excited about our new puppy, but lately I've been thinking it may have been smarter to get a puppy in the spring or summer! It definitely helps to hear others have been there before and that housebreaking turned out ok, even in bad weather. I'm not expecting a lot of snow here until December/January, but it got me worrying when I saw the unusual bad weather today.
