In just two weeks we are getting an 8 week old Goldendoodle puppy. (We are so excited!) I am wondering what I should put in her crate. I know she may chew on whatever we put in there but I feel bad just leaving her lay on the hard plastic. Any ideas on something safe but soft for her to lay on while in the crate?? Thank you in advance!
We use the same bedding for Cotton attached to the link. But we started out with her spending the night in the people bed. Just for the first week. Then we put her in the crate with old towels. She seemed to prefer just the plastic tray because she would scoot the towel to the side.
Hi Dawn. My Labradoodles prefer the plastic tray in their crates to bedding. Even the dogs who fall asleep on our bed at night move to the hardwood floor by morning.
Another fun thing for the pups (and adults) is to put some peanut butter in a kong and put it in the freezer for several hours or even overnight...they just love trying to get the peanut butter out and it takes them longer when frozen.
Yogurt too! Low fat, vanilla, yogurt...stuff it into a kong and seal the ends with Peanut butter and freeze. makes a YUMMY treat! Although I would try it first while you are home to be sure it agrees with pup's tummy--most dogs do fine with it but ya never know!
I left a Nylabone in the crate for Halas. A tough one, like Adina said. I don't think Halas really ever did anything in there but sleep, but it was there if he felt like chewing on something.
It's a brand name. They have them at Petsmart and other pet supply places. They come in a lot of different forms. Here's a link to the Nylabone website if you want to see what some of them look like.
When we first brought Cooper home I put all these fluffy blankets in there with him and when he got bigger I would just put some old towels on the bottom of the crate. Like others have commented, he just kept pushing them to the side or dragging them out. It took me a while to get the drift, but then I just stopped putting anything in there so he could lay on the cool plastic bottom and he loves it! Cooper loves tile, hardwood and anything cool on his tummy better than anything soft and fluffy!
