Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Sam is my one year old cream colored labradoodle. He weighs almost 90 pounds; so no failure to thrive. I now have him on Hill Science Diet I/D as suggested by my vet. It seems to be working. The problem was he was always vomiting, eating grass. No diarrhea. Sometimes vomiting undigested or partially digested food. Sometimes the table scraps my husband fed him. My husband is now convinced that this dog cannot have anything but his dog food; since last night he ate some pasta and vomited as we sat down to eat our dinner. The vet told me that if feeding him this dog food did not eliminate the problem that he would need a furthur workup. So far so good. I would like to know what others have this problem and what have you found out? I love my dog; but have already spent over a $1000 on vet care due to this problem. He has had xrays to see if he has an obstruction and a round of Flagyl and 2 weeks of rice and boiled hamburger and chicken. By the way he really loved that diet and always cleaned up his food.

I am a hypocrite to say this (b/c I give my dogs scraps, too) but you really shouldn't. There are lots of things in our food that are unpalettable (sp?) and/or bad for the dog's digestion and health. Chocolate, onions, tomatoes come to mind.

Eliminate everything but the dog food, then slowly re-introduce things. You may find that it is some thing (or a few things) that specifically induce the vomitting. He may also be ingesting too much at once - you could try putting down the food 3x a day (or twice), so that he's eating the same amount daily, but spread out over the course of the day.

We had gone through bouts of diarrhea with our two guys and working with the vet settled on a food allergy - so now they eat dry dog food with the first ingredent as chicken - no more diarrhea, no vommitting.
My sister has a dog that can eat ONLY his kibble. If he has even one bite of ANY thing else he vomits. I would follow the above advice and see what happens.
Thanks for the advise. That is exactly what we are doing now and it seems to be working; except for the recent incident.
