I was wondering if this dog food, is a good food. I just found out, that a Costco store was built close to us. Thinking of giving it a try, but want to her opinions first.
I used to feed Kirkland Brand to Payton for years (he is 10) and Jordan until last year.
IT WAS NOT RECALLED.I used to work for Costco
I was very happy with both the Lamb and Chicken formula.
I switched because Payton became reactive to gluten, so now I feed gluten fee.
No Poop issues, Since I did switch food Jordan has gained weight. I am not sure it has anything to with not feeding Kirkland.
I would probably still be feeding it if Payton had not become gluten reactive.
edit OG post:
I know the dry was not recalled, I think I would remember if the canned was. When I was working there the Corp. reps were all happy because "our" food was not recalled. With April saying it was..I cant say for sure with canned.I think I would remember if the canned was. I dont think it was.

I just got off the phone with Costco and American Nutrition. Both have confirmed that Kirkland Brand Signature canned food has been recalled. At this point I do not know exactly which canned foods are involved. Melamine has been confirmed in in at least some of their wet food. I’m waiting for more information and will post it here as soon as I get it.
UPDATE: Pet Connection has confirmed with Costco that Kirkland Signature Super Premium Canned Food, item # 38436, best buy dates of Aug. 21 08 to April 15 of 09, has been voluntarilly recalled.
Kirkland Brand Signature canned food is made by American Nutrition.
UPDATE #2: Itchmo found out that the recall covers two formulations sold in a single case:
Kirkland Signature Super Premium Chicken and Rice Canned food for Dogs
Kirkland Signature Super Premium Lamb and Rice Canned food
Hi - this is several months after your original post obviously, but just saw this and we had the same experience with one batch of puppy food - none of our dogs would eat it and we investigated a bit and the smell was not good - we bought a new batch and no problems.
go to the website dogfoodanalysis.com
great tool for evaluating dog food! They list ingredients, pros, cons, etc. It's extrmely informative. I don't buy anything without consulting that site first. They have an A-Z index by name , or you can look specifically at 6 star rated foods (the highest rating) and see all the foods that received a rating of 1.
check it out.
I am a new Doodle Mom. I grew up in the Purina era. I read all the replys to this disucssion and quite frankly I am overwhelmed. I want Samantha to be with me for a long, long time.
The question I have is: if money was not in the equation, what kibble would you buy? I started the change yesterday from Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy to Solid Gold Wolf Cub. I am cooking her dinners for her but Samantha does like brunch and since she is at work with me everyday, kibble is the way to go.
I really am looking foward to your input. I have been given lots and lots of food for thought. lol

I have a question for all of you that use Kirkland. We've had Gaston on the puppy version since we welcomed him into our home. To make life easier on all of us we transitioned our older 3 to the adult version. We've alternated between the lamb and the chicken kibbles. Gaston nibbles on both the puppy and the adult food. We've never had an issue with gas with him (he's 5 months old) until the past month. I thought it was unique to him but Maddy (our shep x) has the exact same gas now (ie: smell)! Their poops are fine/normal for them but the gas..........goodness gracious it could knock the breath out of you! LOL (the other 2 don't have any issues with it) Gaston also has bad breath now too which he never had. Could it be possible that I just got a bag that hasn't agreed with them? or is this a side effect that some of you have with Kirkland food and it's just now hitting us? It truly will curl your toes! LOL
