Our 3 month old goldendoodle is a joy! She gets lot of exercise in the morning and then again in the evening. I am an educator so have been home with her every day for the past 4 weeks. She is sweet during the day but about 8:00 or so after her walk and backyard playing, she starts barking, nipping at my husband and I, chewing the rug and running circles around and around. She turns into a whirling dervish. It is very tiring. We keep redirecting her over and over. After about an hour she collapses on her bed. Feel like I am in school. LOL.Does anyone else experience this? Help!
Sounds like a doodle puppy! We call that racing around "The Zooomies!" and I've heard others call it the "Doodle 500's" -- it's hilarious to watch if you can stay out of the drive-by nipping zones-- LOL.
My Rosco came alive between 7-9pm when he was young. Even now at 2 y.o., after napping ALLLL DAY LONG (which he's doing right now in my office at work) he gains energy around dusk and once it turns dark. He's no longer a whirling dervish, but he was as a pup at that time!
Take him outside, if you are fenced in...and let him run and enjoy the show! As far as nipping, redirecting at this age is fine. Her attention span is short enough that you WILLL need to remind her over and over what is appropriate or not.
If you look under the forum tab on this site and search for "nipping" you'll probably find some old discussions.
Also check out the Puppy Madness group on here...they will ALL identify I think!
Ahhhh yes, we used to call that the "witching hour". She will grow out of it, I can't remember how long it went on. After all...my doodle is 8 1/2 years old!
