Clark and I and a friend and all 3 dogs went on a 5 mile (roundtrip) hike on Saturday afternoon--it was the doodles' 1st hike, long and rocky, but nothing terribly intense as far as long hills or anything. Nevertheless, it was tiring for humans and canines.
Which of the following dogs do you think was MOST worn out from this experience?
A) Rosco -- 2 year old male labradoodle
B) Thule -- 3 year old female labradoodle
C) Cass -- 13 year old female border collie
The correct answer is... are you ready for it?... Rosco. My lazy, dopey, big dog was spent. He was passed out in the car on the way back way before Thule and Cass decided it was time to lie down on the ride home. And he was dead for the rest of the day... Even by his Juvie visit on Sunday his energy was still pretty drained. Enough so he wouldn't even do his "wave" trick...just looked at me like: Are you serious? You expect me to lift my paw after all I've been through?
I can't imagine WHAT he'll be like as a middle aged dog...LOL
It's hilarious isn't it? So much warning about "doodles are high energy! be prepared for TONS of exercise to keep them from misbehaving!" And then some of them turn out totally mellow and lazy! But I love that about Rosco because I'm mellow and lazy ;-)
I am a dog trainer, I see a fair number of dogs that do not get enough protien to eat, they appear "lazy" worn out",, but they are starving for meat.
I suggest upping the protien content on the rosco and see results in a bout 3 weeks.
Its not just breed activity level,. it can be food or thyroid issues.
