Kachi (5 months old)has just discovered the fun of ripping open his stuffed toys to find the prize inside...the squeaker!! Just today, busy bee, alligator & his striped pony (the one he has in his mouth on our profile pic) met untimely deaths. So sad.

Will he out grow this, or does this mean we're destined for only hard rubber toys from here on out? Is there any way to curb this behavior?

It's a tough behavior to curb as he's discovered how FUN it is to destroy them. I've never figured out a way to correct destruction without correcting PLAY with the toy...so I just took all stuffies away. Mine seem quite content chewing on their sterilized real bones. If you look in the REVIEW tab at the top of the page, sort through the toy reviews or all of the reviews and you'll find some recommendations for tough toys for strong chewers.
welcome to the land of dead toys. Cayenne destroys almost everything, tennis balls, soccor balls, wubba toys, rope toys you name it. Funny thing though, the one toy that's lasted the longest was the softest. It's like a stuffed sock. I've pasted a link to a similar monkey:

Thank you for the link. That's funny about Cayenne having one softee that has lasted the longest. Kachi, also! His original baby was one of those long tube loofa dogs from Pet Smart. When I bought it for him, it was practically bigger than he was! He'll still carry it around, and it's so cute because when drops it, he licks it all over! I think it's because I have washed it, and maybe, it smells like us or our clothes(or Downey)! Of course, it has no ears now, and only has one eye, but it still has its insides!!!
Paddington doesn't "destroy" as much as he tears apart slowly day by day, LOL. BUT HE LOVES HIS STUFFIES...in fact I think I need to get him a new one! I always get him the clearance ones at Petsmart :)

Today he was chewing on something, and my son said Mommy Paddington has a weird ball in his mouth, he got it out and it was his hamburgler's eyes! LOL HE doesn't eat them as much as just throws it around, I hate to throw away his eyes, he's having so much fun! hee hee.
I shop on that clearance aisle, as well!!! Honestly, Kachi is sooo much like my son was when he was like 3-4 years old! You know, when you can't hear your kids, and they're not napping, it usually means trouble!! Yesterday, at lunch, it got just a little too quiet, so when I went to inspect, there was white fluff from one end of family room to the other!!! But, like your Paddington, Kachi loves his toys that squeak!!!!
Yes, my older dog has done this for years......now the puppy has figured this out:( First I say better toys than our carpet or other things!! I have found these things called Skinneez......no stufffing. Both dogs will be getting them from Santa this year:)

These are from Doctors Foster and Smith

Thank you so much for sharing this link! I will definitely be purchasing one for Kachi. Excellent idea- a no stuffing fluffy!! Since he loves loves loves to carry his 'babies' around in his mouth, these will be great!
Hmmm...I'm tempted too! I might have to stop by PetCo!
Thanks for the info on the non-stuffie stuffies! Rufus & Jacoby will be getting them soon. I'm tired of cleaning up "stuff"!
They are funny, aren't they! I've learned to go straight to the clearance section for all fluffies from now on!!!
You know, it's funny you should say that about the knotted fabric! It made me remember that I had given Dempsey an old sock tied in a knot, and he LOVED it! He chewed on it, and tossed it around and played tug with it until it was super shredded and then I tossed it out, and gave him another one!
