I don't know if I do it right.I don't want Abby ( 10 weeks ) in the crate all day.So I let her play a little and then tether her,get her out to go potty, and then crate her.
The one book I read said, crate 2 hours then out, potty, 30 minutes play, back in the crate etc.So that is pretty much how I try to do it.
How do you do it???
Sounds like you are on target with your crate training methods. It is how I would do it. Baby doodles are so smart, Abby should train quickly following your approach. Good luck
That sound about right. In the crate Abby will be fine for 2 hours. Out of the crate I'd take her out as often as every 20 minutes until she goes without any accidents for a week then you can slowly increase the time.
Rosco was crated A LOT. Any time I couldn't keep both eyes on him at that age. Probably more than the average pup. Buy he turned out fine. I always took him out for potty before and immediately after crating. So if he was playing for 30 minutes and it was crate time, I'd take him out first to give him a chance to eliminate BEFORE putting him back in the crate.
Depending on how young your pup is and how strict you stick to the plan.........between 2-4 weeks. My first was 4 months old when we got her and she was trained in 2 weeks, then my LD -Giada we got her @ 9 wks. & she was trained in 4 weeks. I don't know if this is average or not, but I am VERY methodical in my training and have a stong drive to NOT have puppies pee or poo in my house.
