A DRC TALE - "MY NAME IS GENTRY AND THIS IS MY STORY" WARNING-PHOTOS MAY BE CONSIDERED GRAPHIC

My name is Gentry. I'm an 11 month old Goldendoodle and my foster mom says that I'm handsome, sweet and a really good boy!

I'm still just a baby with so much love to give... But I've had some traumatic experiences that I would like to share with everyone. My hope is that my story will provide awareness about puppy mills and expose the atrocities committed against animals by the Amish people who operate them.

I started out just like any other innocent....A wholesome, idealistic "farm boy" ready to give my heart to any human.  Only, the farm that I came from was in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and it was the furthest thing from idealistic and wholesome.

It was a Amish puppy mill..... And me, my litter mates and my poor momma were considered nothing more than "cash crop" to the Amish farmer that bred us. Life was hard. Especially on my poor momma who spent her entire life in a tiny cage standing on wire. All she did day in and day out was make more and more puppies just like me to be sold to pet stores.

All of my litter mates were sold right away. But I was unfortunate to have been born with a congenital disfigurement called a "fused preputial orifice" that left untreated, can be life threatening. That means that the opening of the protective skin sheath around my penis was fused shut and there was no way for me to relieve my bladder and go potty like a normal puppy.

Something had to be done and quickly.

But instead of taking me to a vet for surgery to fix the problem, the Amish farmer performed surgery on me himself with his pocket knife without any anesthesia when I was just a few hours old.

Because I was so small, I don't remember feeling much pain, but the Amish farmer ended up removing the prepuce (the protective skin sheath) from around my penis ENTIRELY with his knife.....And I ended up brutally mutilated and disfigured for life.

As I grew, I had discomfort, some pain and was in danger of getting infections. I had no skin sheath to protect my "boy bits" which were exposed at all times.

I was finally bought by a family who felt really sorry for me. Of course, they paid next to nothing for me because of my "problem." When I was uncomfortable or in pain, my mom tried to make me comfortable by putting petroleum jelly on my injured privates. It helped a little, but I was still always red, raw and exposed.

And, I have to say...It was not a pretty sight and was embarrassing too.

My family tried their very best, but they just couldn't provide me with enough time and attention and they didn't have the means to provide me with corrective surgery to help me with my disfigurement.

But that's when I ended up with DRC and my incredible foster momma Sue Cooper. DRC got me to their vet right away. I had plastic surgery to create a sheath for my man parts and repair the horrific mutilation......

The great news is that the surgery was a success and I feel SO MUCH BETTER NOW!

And of course my little "friend" only peeks out every once in awhile now.

I'm so happy, I jump for joy!

I'm enjoying my time at my foster home in Ohio with all of my foster siblings and my awesome foster mom Sue who takes EXCELLENT care of me...........But I'm finally ready for my "furever" home.

I will need puppy-savvy, patient and loving adults who are willing to provide me with everything I will need to grow to become the wonderful dog I was always destined to be.

I have quite a bit of puppy energy now that I am feeling better and I will need a fenced in yard and daily exercise. Because I'm still a puppy, I will need a family that are around for a large part of the day.

I like other dogs a lot. I get really excited to meet them! But I don't know how to play appropriately yet because I was taken away from my mom and my litter mates too soon before I learned proper doggy etiquette. So I will need some additional socialization. leash practice and would benefit from puppy classes.

I am highly people focused and sometimes I'm stubborn and don't like to share.  So my foster mom and DRC think I would do best as the only dog in an ADULT ONLY home where I can receive all of the love, attention and affection from my people. My new family will need to provide me with strong leadership and guidance so that I continue learn proper borders and boundaries and unlearn a few bad habits.

My foster mom says that I'm just the sweetest guy! She also says I'm an awesome pup and I'm going to be a fantastic companion for the right family. I cant wait to meet them and finally be home!

Poor boy-so so glad he found the DRC, or rather they found and saved him.  I hope he finds just the right new home.
