Anyone considering adopting this dog needs to be aware of the following:

The dog has fear aggression issues.

BAT training is Behavior Adjustment Training, and is used for dogs who have displayed sharpness/shyness, fear aggression, and reactivity. These are frustrating things to deal with, and only a very experienced, committed owner will be successful in dealing with them.

This dog is dog aggressive/reactive, cat (& other small animal) aggressive, and has displayed aggression towards humans, particularly children. There may be a bite history. Because of this, the people who now have custody of him have not been able to find foster placement for him.

He is not a candidate for doggie daycare or play groups, and definitely no dog parks. He needs to be the only pet in a quiet, structured adult home.

That is good to know. My husband I and were discussing this and wondering if that was why he came with all this free training. It seems a bit unusual, but that would explain it.

You would be surprised by how many rehome applications DRC receives for young doodles (under 1 year old) who have bite histories and have displayed aggression towards other dogs and people. There have even been a handful who were euthanized for extreme temperament issues. Not all doodles have great temperaments.

That's sad. I hope this little guy finds the perfect home.

I belong to a Reactive Dog group because of Murphy's issues and several of the members of this group use the BAT program.  It is a whole lifestyle.  You can never put your dog into situations which might trigger a reaction until they are ready....and for some that takes a very long time.   I am so impressed with how committed these owners are to their dogs and how they literally turn their lives around to accommodate their dog's needs.  What I learned from the group is that there really is no "cure"...it's about management and for most dog's it's a lifelong concern.  I know this sounds pretty pessimistic, but these dogs who are managed do seem to be okay in that controlled environment, and it sure beats the alternative.
