Has anyone noticed that the website now seems to be censoring certain words, with hilarious results?

I first noticed this in posts where the word bitch was used appropriately to describe a female dog. The word kept coming up with asterisks in place of letters, and I didn't think that the posters had done that themselves, as in most cases they were breeders who are not uncomfortable with the word "bitch."

Now today, a Food Group member started a new discussion about the Natural Balance line of dog food, made by (or licensed by) the actor Dick van Patten. Take a look at the way the discussion comes up:

This is pretty funny, but also kind of scary. Don't we have any members named Dick, or with a surname that contains those letters (I have a friend whose maiden name was Dickler) and if so, are their screen names full of asterisks?

I'm going to have to think of some other common every day words that also have "naughty" connotations and see what happens.

**UPDATE**:

Adina has fixed the problem, which makes this whole discussion moot, but still funny.

Clark is super creative that way ;-)  JK.  It's inherent in the system and we just adjust as needed.  But until the last month or so we hadn't really run into false positives much.

I am absolutely sure that it wasn't always this way. We have used the name Dick van Patten many, many times in the Food group since its inception, and it has never come up in asterisks until now.

Thanks for fixing this, it did seem ridiculous not to be able to use the word bitch properly on a dogcentric site. Of course, now the humor of this discussion (which was what was intended, and not a complaint) is also gone. I'm sorry you don't seem to be amused.

On the plus side, my power is back on...for now at least. Sigh.

Oh it was amusing!  :-D

We did not change anything or add these words to the list of censored words at any point.  It's possible a back-end change was made in the system that made the censoring work 'better' and thus catch these instances, though.

What's going on there power wise? It isn't that hot there now is it. Storms? Here it's simply balmy in the low to mid eighties. It's a wonder what perspective will do.
Record rainstorms. Almost triple the standing record for one day. Humidity off the charts. What exactly that has to do with the the power, only Com Ed knows for sure. If ever I was tempted to use bad words, they would all be directed at Com Ed.
No climate change, huh.

Record is right. Here we have broken all records for March, April, May, June, and now it looks like July.

Last Monday we had 7 inches in 1.5 hours.  Some homes are condemned.  We helped vacuum basements that will for sure be a total loss in contents.  Some roads were compeletly washed away.  FEMA has been called into some areas.

Many homes just lost the sump pump when the power went off and in an hour everything was lost.

Be safe.

Question:  Are  you have bad weather right now?   We get your weather about 5-6 hours later.  Sounds like a long night here then

The sump pump was one of the reasons I got a back up generator.
I just talked to Karen, and she has no power so she's missing out on this discussion.....but she'll catch up.
Oh no not again. Poor Karen.

Do you possibly have parental controls set up unknowingly... Or maybe it is a new IE "feature".  I am reading this post on Firefox and the words are coming across uncensored.  I just couldn't help myself and just had to post this t-shirt pic of Dick and his dog Fluffy below...

No we fixed it so now it's not censored =)
