Yesterday afternoon I put biospot Spot On Flea & Tick Control on Haley. The evening went as usual, nothing out of the ordinary until Midnight We woke up in front of the TV; took Haley out for a potty break. DH and Haley went upstairs and I followed a few minutes later to find Haley laying in the middle of the hall and not in his bed in the bedroom. It took a little coaxing to get him to get up and go into the bedroom. He would not get in bed. Then I saw it - the excessive drool coming out of his mouth! The only thing I could think of was the spot on I had applied earlier. Long story made short - Haley got a bath; blow-dry; the drooling stopped and we all went to bed.
This morning I called biospot told them what happened; answered some questions and was transferred to a Vet Tech with the ASPCA who asked me some questions then told me Haley had apparently ingested some of the spot on possibly biting at the base of his tail and the taste was what had caused the drooling. He suggested I contact his vet for flea and tick treatment this month and that after that it would be alright to use the biospot again.
I have been using this particular product on Haley for three years without any problem.
Has anyone else had a drooling side effect from whatever spot on you use and if so, did you continue to use that particular spot on?

I use Frontline Plus and haven't had a problem. This would have scared me to death. I'm just glad Haley is okay now.
Yes. For the 31-60 pound dog between shoulder blades and base of tail. Over 60 pound dog those two spots plus middle of back.
I use Frontline Plus too. My vet said I should put it in spots all the way down the back, however, I don't...for this very reason. I am afraid of my dog getting access to the area and licking at it. Putting it between the shoulder blades works for us. Glad Haley is okay! I would have been scared too!!
Only between the shoulder blades for mine too.
I wouldn't put any kind of topical where a dog could reach to lick it. I have used Frontline Plus for years, and only apply it between the shoulder blades and down the back a little bit, where JD can't reach it.
I guess to spread it out. If I continue to use it I will not put it in the tail area again.
I use Frontline Plus but only put it between the shoulder blades and about half way down Riley's back. That's what the instructions say. I would have got an almighty fright too, so glad all is Ok now. I think that instruction to put it at the base of the tail is wrong and your experience proves it.
We only apply between the shoulders.
