This morning I was looking at PetFinder and I saw this "Poodle Mix" just rescued from a high kill shelter. She is two years old and sounds wonderful. She's 15 pounds, so just Guinness's size. She was badly neglected and had to be totally shaved. I fell in love with her already. So, I'm thinking Guinness might want a "big sister". He loves other dogs, so I don't think it would be a big transition for him. Before I go any further with this what are the objective things I should be considering? Right now I know I'm thinking with my heart...not my head. Please DK friends, help me to think this through objectively. Here's her picture....is she a doodle? Her name is Isabelle, but I'd call her Izzy.
Although 2 dogs are harder in some ways in others, like the time they spend outside chasing each other, it's easier. The change from no dog to 1dog is significantly more life changing that 1 to 2 dogs.
Here's the update. She is still available....I just can't stand it I'm so excited. I knew this was meant to be. I just filled out the application and sent it back online. Maybe we can take Guinness to meet her tomorrow....I HOPE! I'm going to go to bed and try to sleep now. I'll keep you posted....tell the Doodles to cross their paws.
Yeah! Can't wait till tomorrow.... Good luck. It's so funny how fate just always comes our way when we least expect it to... Fingers and paws all crossed here for you!!! SWEET dreams!!!
Izzy looks so sad in the photo. I can imagine how happy she would be to have another dog to play with, not alone to get a good groom. You know how good it feels to be nice and clean and have a friend come to see you. But do check everything out. I'm glad someone was able to rescue her and give her another chance at love and a family. Everyone is right about having two dogs. My two are inseparable and love each other dearly.
No news yet this morning. Guinness has a grooming appointment, so I'll be out until early this afternoon. I'm hoping that we can all meet Izzy today, but we'll see. In the email they did say they thought we'd be a good home for her, so that's encouraging.
Just to put in my negative (temporarily) 2 cents. We already had two dogs when we got Ned. Our two have been around other family dogs extensively. Our older dog (10) was immediately fine with Ned, but our then 4- year old Springer became very depressed and it took him almost a year to come around. He did. We were shocked that Gordie was so affected by the addition. We just kept giving him lots of love.
