Wow! It was so exciting! I wanted to give everyone an update. Yesterday Charlie made history at my DD’s School. We started working with the reading resource teacher. We meet with our first group of children so we could talk about the rules with Charlie. Then they all were able to read him a book. The first groups were K-2 and then we also meet with a boy from 3rd grade. He told Charlie the coolest thing as he was getting ready to go back to class “Charlie welcome to Emerick and I’m glad you are here!”
It was the fastest hour of my life.
Adina, I make stickers for the kids and they loved them. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will make new ones each week. Today we had our second visit and another group of kids. One little girl was afraid of Charlie. So she sat on his mat and I moved Charlie close to me. I told her when she is ready she could pet him. As she was leaving to go back to class she gave him a quick pet on the back. We will be working with the same group of kids each week, and will have the same days each week. Our session for each day is about 1hour and 15 minutes.
It seems that a lot of teachers have been busy looking up information on Doodles. Of course those that ask I refer to Doodlekisses!
Thanks for letting me share!
Ann

Wow! That's great! I'll bet Charlie knew that he was doing something good for the kids. Halas would like to do this eventually, but I think he needs to get a little older before he'll sit through a whole book. But we plan to start with visits to as many places with as many different types of people as we can.
Charlie turned 2 in August. The nice thing about the books the kids read is that they are short. It is set up to be make be a win win for the kids.
Dear Ann,
I think what you are doing to just about the msot wonderful thing I have heard. My daughters had learning issues in school and if they only had a Doodle to read to, it may have made such a difference in their self esteem. You and Charlie are the best in my book.
I always knew that I wanted Samantha to do therapy work at Childrens Specialized Hospital near our home. I wanted to give back to the therapists, etc for helping my youngest daughter through difficult PT when she was 14 (she's now 25). Now I have a second goal for us. I am going to reach out to our administrators to ask what their policy is.
Thank you,
Adrianne
That's a fabulous, Ann! Sounds like both of you had a great time and did a wonderful thing :-) it's fun isn't it? I love the way the kids respond. And some of them do say the cutest things!
It's use again:) We are asking for suggestions. Today was our thrid visit to school. It is going great and the kids love Charlie. Well, in fact the whole school loves Charlie. His picture was posted by the music room and everyone knows him by name. The children have to finish there work before they can read to Charlie. The teacher told me she couldn't belive how hard everyone work to get there turn. The little problem we are having is the school is very warm. We sit in a hallway near a door and a big window. They have the heat on and it is warm for him. I let the kids sit on the mat and had Charlie lay on the tile. Should I take a fan? Any thoughts you can share would be great.
Ann, I would start a brand new discussion on this new question... Simply because it will easily get lost since it's now a little bit older.
Wow - thanks for sharing!!
