Lacey is 15 weeks old and I was just wondering how old your doodle was when you started allowing them access to your entire home? Right now we live in an apartment and Lacey currently has access to the kitchen and living room (it's open concept). We have her gated off and only allow her to go into other rooms when we are in that room with her or when she is sleeping in her crate in our bedroom.

Quincy will be two years old next week and we are still working on this.  He has had free roam while we are home since he was a few months, but we still crate.  We want to start weaning, but then he does things like chew a cloth ring napkin holder someone dropped at dinner last night.  But I do know his theory is anything on the floor is fair game - lol.  I agree, all dogs are different and you have to do what you are comfortable with and what is also safe.

We have done 4 days of no crate while we are at work and so far, so good!

Excellent!

Thanks!

at 6 months old.  But we still have to watch her like a HAWK!!  She still has accidents around the house, but we have a nice new big pet shampooer to take care of that!!!  we still have to watch her!!!  She once chewed parts of her blanket, and she threw up the whole thing!!!  (thank God for that!!) You have to pick up EVERYTHING off the floors!!!!  She finds EVERYTHING.  Even stuff you never though you had, she found them.  Small items on the floor, too.  She is 7 mos old, but we still have to watch her.  She lays down more on the floor and rest and when she does I still watch her, because she will jump up in a New York minute, when she wants to exercise!  We love her so much, and we are more content when she is with us in the living room, and running around and running up and down the stairs, and not in a crate!!

Daisy is 6 months and right now she only has access to the kitchen when we aren't home. I am still scared to let her have full run of the house!!! Mainly because I could see her chewing our coffee table or perhaps our furniture, etc, since she's still teething. I am thinking in the next month or two (or maybe three) we will try 100% freedom.

I guess we're late to the game - Luna was a year and a month before she got full house access.  She has been doing fine with it.   I'm very diligent about socks or anything being left out but she doesn't normally get into anything. We did away with the crate around 8 months.

Libby was always gated in the kitchen (at her mom's) until she was about 1 1/2 when no one was home.  When I had her for sleepovers I was always there so there was no need to worry - she slept in my room with the door shut so I didn't worry about her going anywhere.   I admit it took a few months for me to be comfortable leaving her in my house, but that was more my own mental problem.  She is also one of those dogs that is not interested in human belongings - oh, she tore up a roll of TP when she was a baby, but doesn't get into trash or take anything that might be on the floor that isn't hers.  Never really destroyed anything.  I suppose if I left a steak on the floor she would take it - LOL.  But she is perfectly behaved in that way - never have to worry.  I'm so spoiled.  When I was going to temporarily foster a young doodle a few months ago I realized I had to dog proof my house because there was no guaranty that he would be that kind of perfect.  It didn't wind up happening (happily he could go back to his real home), but my house was a lot more organized!
