Thank you all so much I am learning so much about Addison's.
Jack of Jennifer and Jack has Addison's and she recently posted how well he is doing. You might want to send her a friend request to discuss this with her.
I am so sorry to hear of Hank's recent diagnosis. Check out the "Whole Dog Journal." They did a very informative article in October 2011 on Addison's. You can order complete copies of the article. Although we aren't dealing with the disease here, I found the article interesting and full of lots of information.
Best of luck with Hank's treatment.
I am sorry that Hank has Addison's. Do check out the health and medical group and the link to dogs with Addison's.
I am truly sorry that you and Hank are starting this adventure. A thousand years ago my Bearded Collie was diagnosed with Addison's when she was 11 months old. Back in the day the treatment was salt pill and corticortisones(???) twice a day. I am thrilled to tell you she only had a few Addisonian episodes in the 12 years that followed!
You are very lucky to have DK and the internet to do research and find out what is best for Hank. I only had the word of my vet which turned out lucky for us that he knew what to do for an Addisonian.
There's always an adjustment period when a dog is on medication, especially when prednisone is involved. It will take some time for Hank's body to adjust. I know how overwhelming it can be when you first get a diagnosis like this, and it's hard to be patient; you are worried about what the future will bring and you want to "fix" everything right now and get into a normal routine again. But the best thing you can do is try to relax and give it time. Hank will adjust and get back to feeling like his old self soon. Hugs to all of you.
So sorry to hear about Hank's diagnosis. I am all too familiar with how devastating a diagnosis such as this can be and the worry that goes along with it. Hang in there, love him, be patient and things will get better.
Thank you for your encouraging words it really is hard I watch him like a hawk and I cant really sleep because I am worried I wont hear him if he needs me but with time I hope we will all get back to normal and maybe after the vet check on Friday will help me just to know he is ok and the meds are working I will feel better.
Thank you again
Staci
