Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi, all.
One of our neighbors has an invisible fence. I was out walking Truffle when he approached it and it suddenly looked like he was having a seizure. It happened twice in quick succession. It then occurred to me that he might have been electrocuted by the fence.
When it was happening, he looked like a Looney Tunes cartoon character - with his legs splayed in different directions. He's fine - we proceeded along on on our walk without further incident, but it was truly scary for a brief instant.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? It must be a malfunction, no?

Same here. I dont trust what products they use.
I have mud and a dog. Happy
Poor Charlotte! Very scary but thanks for sharing Laurie.
There is a particular spot on the road we walk to the beach where Quincy has laid flat down and refused to move. I wonder if it was because he heard some kind of sound that resembles the sound his collar gives off when he is near the electric fence boundary? There is a high pitch sound before any shock is delivered and that's how the dog knows to avoid the actual shock. Interesting
I do think to actually get shocked by the electric fence the dog has to have the collar on. Each collar is programmed to the radio wave of the receiver.
Will be interesting to hear the outcome. So glad Truffles is ok.
Awww poor baby. They may have the fence turned up way too high. My brand of fence is a 3 part warning system before a correction is given. Beep, vibration, then correction I have put the collar on myself and it feels like your tongue on a battery. It does not hurt - just feels funny. My doodles get a beep and they back up. Hopefully your neighbor did all the training because you just cant put up a e-fence and expect the poor dog to know what to do !!!
Did you read her update on page three?

The plot thickens! The company is called "The Power Survey Company" and I just had a great conversation with one of the guys there. Their office is not far from where I live and they're sending one of their custom trucks out to do a drive-by today to see if their equipment picks up any kind of leak signal. And they'll report back to me later.
Our town's power lines are all above ground, so he doesn't think it's related to the public utility lines. However, he doesn't discount the possibility that the property in question may have some underground lines - related to either the invisible fence or something else - that might be causing the issue.
Anyway, he seemed very interested in this mystery - and I think it's awesome that they're willing to have a look - not just to help out, but for their own edification. Their clients are not individuals, but large cities and municipalities. For example, they comb the streets of NYC once a month to test all the power lines. They even have clients overseas.
I will let you all know once I hear back from him.
