Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, I am brand new to this board.  My family is on a wait list for an F1b mini goldendoodle, hopefully to be born this spring.  We went with the f1b breed because of my daughter's allergies.  She does not react to a friend's f1b mini.  Here is my question:  I would really prefer as straight of hair as possible on our dog, understanding that it will get curlier/wavier as the puppy gets older.  Because of the f1b status, are we pretty safe from allergy issues, no matter if the puppy's hair is straighter or curlier?  Thanks in advance for your help!

Nope. Not safe. F1b litters can have some straight haired shedders too. Curly ones are most likely to not shed, though straighter haired doodles can sometimes be nonshedders. It's REALLY tough to tell unless the dog is curly.

While doodles are great dogs, not all of them are non-shedding or allergy friendly and there is a coat change from pup to adult that can cause a change in your allergic reactions to them. Here is an article about determining your allergy level with a particular doodle.

Here is a list of the non- or low shedding breeds:

Absolutely no guarantees...each and every dog is different.

Have you considered an Australian Doodle....generally they are less likely to shed.  That said, it is always possible that your daughter could be allergic to the dander.   My younger ALD is a DRC rescue who had to be rehomed due to the original owner's allergies....and he doesn't shed at all.

I have an F1b, that was surrendered, because the kids were allergic to the dog's saliva.  He doesn't shed and has a very curly coat

I am more allergic to my non-shedding curly coated ALD than my straighter coated, shedding F1 Labradoodle. There are no guarantees. As my breeder told me, if you have concerns about allergies, get a poodle (I got my two anyway because I am an adult and was prepared to deal with the consequences of my allergies worsening and I don't have children). There are so many doodles out there that have to be rehomed when they change from puppy to adult coat because of allergies in the household.
