I certainly am missing the 'Search Feature'

There have been several discussions about what type of fencing members have used.  Many discussions had pictures, links, and  recommendations.

We are looking at the varieties and alternatives to traditional fencing this week.   If you have an idea, link, and/or picture.

Someone posted this link last year.  It is the only one I had bookmarked.  Deer Fencing.  http://www.bennersgardens.com/

It was easy with one dog--impossible with two.  Would love to enjoy the backyard this summer.

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions.

Ihave a vinyl coated chain link fence. It certainly is not as pretty as the aluminum one pictured but it has held up now for 30 years and the vinyl still looks fine. I have let the support poles go for the past 10 years or so and now they are getting rusted. It is certainly a sturdy fence - 5 ft high. Love that aluminum one though... just love the look. I'm not so fond of the solid privacy fences ( not sure of the proper name) because they block the view. I like seeing the neighbors and the dogs would be lost if they couldn't see out around the yard. I want a new one and I'm debating on what to get but I'm kind of denying that the cyclone is probably best for my situation- rather have the pretty aluminum look!
I will say that the problem I had w/ invisible fences was that I NEVER let my dogs out unsupervised. I was afraid the mailman, servicmen, etc. would get bitten. I never left the house with them outside. But our subdivision had rules that they were the only fences allowed for VIEW purposes. My new house I will be moving into doesn't have those restrictions and I have a backyard fence, wood, privacy. I'll have to see how that works. I am so used to the freedom of not worrying about a dog running out the car and trying to escape out the garage door. I'll just have to see how Sheila's personality pans out.
I always keep a leash on Jack when we're getting in or out of the car and the garage door has to be open. I didn't always, but I heard too many horror stories about dogs bolting. Jack is the calmest guy in the world, he sticks to me like glue and never bolts, but all it takes is that one time a squirrel happens to be crossing your driveway...it's just not worth taking a chance, regardless of the dog's personality. I keep a short leash on a hook by the door to the garage and it's no trouble at all to just clip it on before we leave.
I have deer fencing installed by the brother of the owner of Benner's Gardens, who has his own company. http://www.rbennerdeerfence.com/ I originally traveled to Pa. to see the fencing and deer grating at the home of the father of these 2 guys. He's had the fencing for years. There are advantages: relatively inexpensive, unobtrusive, you can install it yourself if you have the muscle. I would make sure to get the wire coated fencing at the bottom to keep woodchucks etc.out and the dogs in. It needs to be secured very well at the bottom with stakes for that purpose. I've had mine about 6 years . I do need some minor repairs at this point and some better gate solutions for my driveway. I painted the poles a kind of neutral brown for more camouflage. Here's the same general are a in:

I live on a very busy road (semi-country) and have an invisible fence for 2 dogs. I have a very large, irregularly-shaped yard and have about 1 1/3 acres fenced for them. It has worked wonderfully. However, I would never leave the dogs out when I wasn't home (you never know). The company is called DogWatch of Cape Cod; perhaps there are other DogWatch companies in your area.
This is what I mean when I talk about the type of lot you have has some impact on what type fencing works in your particular situation. This is the perfect example of a lot that would allow many options of the split rail or board type fences. They fit with the landscape, where as on my lot that is wide open, they just sort of stick out.

I have enough trouble with bunnies and things on my lot, I can't even imagine the wildlife on a lot like this. Very beautiful!
