AND THE WINNER IS......

We have a winner!  As most of you know, Michele (Doodle Kisses Paul & Michele) generously volunteered to make a hand embroidered "doggie blanket" as a raffle prize to raise funds for Midnight's hip replacement surgery.  Everyone who donated at least $25 was eligible to win this really cozy blanket.  Well last night was the drawing to pick the winner.  Because Midnight has just had his surgery, and isn't home yet, our plan was to have his sister Daisy select the winner.....but Daisy had other ideas.  She decided not to cooperate.  So, Matt who is another DRC Doodle rescued by Todd and Krista Sumlin stepped in....and he did a fantastic job.  We've attached a video of the actual drawing.  Krista and Todd put all the donor's names inside dog fortune cookies, and Matt selected the winning cookie (very cute).  I'm guessing you're wondering if you won right about now.  Our "Midnight Blanket Raffle" winner is Teresa Rubin from Woodland Hills, CA.  Congratulations, Teresa!!!!

We really need to thank Todd and Krista for everything they're doing to help DRC's special Doodles, like Midnight.  I'd also like to add a big "thank you" for putting together the drawing and video so we could all share this experience.  Again, to everyone who donated and participated in the raffle....YOU'RE THE BEST!

MIDNIGHT UPDATE FROM JUDY STEELMAN

"The blanket drawing was so well done and also very touching. This boy is one lucky dog and such a joy to deal with!

This is a picture of Midnight out on a rug sitting next to me while I doodle around, giving him some company. He is so good and so smart. That good doodle character plus his meds are making it very easy to care for him.

When I take him out, he keeps wanting to go to the car or the truck and I realized he has so much more fun in the car b/c he enjoys just looking out the windows. I think he misses his activities. Even at the hospital he had other animals around and lots of people walking by so we're making an extra effort to stimulate him and make him feel even more loved than he already is.

He is putting quite a bit of weight on his leg (which is good) but is doing so gingerly. He is feeling so much better probably better than he ever has in his entire life! Believe it or not he really wants to romp! so I'm keeping him on his meds all day as the vet suggested we do for the first two weeks -- the Firocoxib (for pain, swelling and anti-inflammatory, Tramadol for pain and Trazadone to decrease anxiety and restrict activity level.

He is never so over-medicated to the point of being out of it or sleeping all the time. He is just calmer and more subdued. He is able to go out and do everything necessary. Has had no vomiting or diarrheah. His appetite is good and he drinks plenty of water. We were cautioned that he is nice and slender and doesn't need to lose or gain any weight."

Oh Matt looks so happy. What a wonderful thing to have a new hip and no pain...only healing pain which lessens each day! We all have fallen in love with Matt!!

You are right and I was thinking of both Matt and Midnight at the same time. I meant to say that Matt looks so happy in the video and then the rest was regarding Midnight. My brain was in multidoodle mode and I combined the two boys. Yes...we have fallen in love with both of them. When we follow their progress we too get so attached to these wonderful Doodles!
