Trixie has always loved chewing her Nyla bones. (she mainly chews them in the evening if we watch TV, At bedtime in our bed.  And to destress if we have been gone for awhile)  They have always kept her teeth nice & clean.

This last week or so she hasnt chewed them much.  I dont think any thing is wrong with her teeth- of course I dont know for sure.

I think they tend to get sharp & hurt her tongue....Last night we were gone for about 5 hrs in the evening- when we got home she chewed her bone more then she had all week- Then stopped & licked the air alot...Like her tongue got sore or cut from chewing (she has done this before)

I was going to give Antlers a try.

I have a few questions about them:

How many of you tried Antlers & your dog didnt like them....What did they end up liking to chew?

If you have a light colored Doodle- Do they stain their beard?

Do they get sharp as the dog chews on them?

Which kind of Antlers are harder? Elk or Deer?  I really dont think she needs the harder antler.

Does your dog prefer Split or whole Antlers?

Which size do you buy for your dood?  Trixie is 45# & does not have a very large mouth.

Where do you find the best prices on them.

Thanks

Those are great pictures. We have a few in various stages of Chew. I never know when they are 'Done'.

My three dogs LOVE antlers (and Nylabones).  Whole antlers.  Ned had a slab fracture and we do not know if he got it from the nylabones, femur, or antlers.  He is a strong chewer but he is a smaller dood.  I took the femur away but.....

She is the antler queen!  What a beautiful girl sitting on her throne! :-)  I am going to have to try one of those whole antlers!

I HAVE to get Harley one of those whole ones.  An antler that also looks like a tree branch....two of his favs

Oh- I love her Bed too!

Hi Trixie!

My mom bought me an elk antler and it is my FAVORITE chew (besides my human sister's underwear). Deer antlers are softer, I've heard, but the store only sold elk and I don't have any problems with it. It is whole and about 7 inches long. The lady at the store told my mom that if I didn't show interest in it, she could simmer it in chicken broth for a few hours to give it more flavor. Well, she didn't need to do that because I was obsessed with it immediately!

Good luck and I hope Pam buys one for you, you beautiful doodle princess you!

Your friend,

Axel

lol, Harley is in hog heaven with my socks, panties and bra's.....they are his favorite items to play "keep away" with.   He also seems to hamper dive at the worst time, such a a room full of company!

Thanks for all of your replies!  and Pictures too.

I think I may go with a larger size rather then a smaller size- which I was thinking I would buy...But it seems like maybe the smaller sizes are shorter...but not necessarily fatter?

I know short bones are harder for some dogs to hold onto.

I may start with a split one too.

Thanks for the search link Karen.  I did not think to search in just the food group...I did a general search before I posted my question & it was 197 pages long...I did look at about 3 pages...But did not find my questions answered so decided to start a new thread.

Going to compare prices & shipping....

Has anyone bought them from Wag.com?
