Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our 4 and one-half month old fi miniature golden doodle constantly has the doggie smell.  He has a wavy coat red coat.  We can bath him and by the next day he smells.  A friend told me that it was a golden retriever type smell.  Does anyone have suggestions for diminishing the smell?  I can't bath him all the time as that's not good for his skin and coat.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good Point! And some ear infections stink!
When we got Ned he stunk to high heaven. We bathed him 3 times before we realized it was his ears. poor baby. He had infections from fox tails in both ears and his throat.
It may just be puppy smell, which many people really do like, but could be something else. I don't know if this will work or if it is even available anymore, but there used to be a medication that took away the dog's scent. A vetinary office recommended it to me when I had an unspayed female airedale for controlling the scent of heat. I would give her this medication when she was going into heat and she did not have the scent (we even had other dogs in the house that did not know that she was in heat). It was not particularly for controlling the heat scent, but was for taking away the doggie scent. I haven't had a female dog since her, but it may be worth checking out.
