Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a beautiful healthy Goldendoodle "Bogey".  He is 5 months old. When I got home yesterday afternoon I noticed he wouldn't open his eyes.  He ate, played and opened them a little, but when I was petting him he had them closed the entire time.  This went on all evening. I put warm packs on them. There is no ozzing or any other symptoms, just wants to keep them closed.  I called the vet and have an appointment in the morning.  She said possibly they are dry, but are hurting for some reason. I have had dogs my entire life, a Golden Retriever for the past 15 years and have never seen this, with any of my dogs to be honest. Any ideas?  Thanks, Paula and Bogey

Keeping the eyes closed most of the time is a sign that there's an eye problem, but there's no way to say what that might be without the vet examining them. I'm glad you're taking Bogey to the vet.

Thanks, yes we will see her asap. He is only 5 months and I haven't had his hair cut yet, but will be sure to trim around his eyes, but doubt thats the problem.

No I'm sure that's not the problem. Please let us know what your vet says.

My dog had a "wart" surgically removed from his eyelid as a young puppy. Although we haven't had any further problems with it growing back, I regret my decision to totally rely on the vet for diagnosis and removal. For something so important as his vision, I wish I had sought out the opinion of a canine optometrist. Hopefully Bogey's problem is something that can be easily treated.

I am glad you are taking him to the vet. Hopefully, he just needs some meds and will soon heal.
