Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi Everyone
I am looking for a puppy and felt sure I wanted a Labradoodle, probably an Australian, but a friend says she knows several and that they are hyper. I don't want a nutty dog and so am sadly having second thoughts. She also said that an English Goldendoodle is going to be more mellow. Now I am completely confused. If I do go with the English Goldenddoodle, can anyone recommend a good breeder. I live in Northern California, but am willing to travel. I am very committed to finding a responsible breeder, not a puppy mill.
Thanks!
Sheila

I have a F1b goldendoodle and he is the calmest puppy I have ever seen! He just lays around all day, and he is eight months old now. The other 6 puppies in his litter were also extremely calm. Everyone told me my puppy would be easy to train because of how calm he is and that is true. I bought my puppy from a breeder near Ocala, Florida (NAME REMOVED BY ADMIN)
Hi Amy
Thank you so much for your reply. Would you mind sending me the name of that breeder in a private message?
Thanks again

Hi,
I have a 3 year old goldendoodle who is well behaved and calm. She is attentive but not pesty. Here is the But. She loves people and she is wild or hyper in wanting to be petted. After a few moments or minutes of getting attention she goes back to her nice calm self. She is going to be having her second litter and her first went to mostly families and they have adjusted well. The two that were the most laid back still are. The one that was the most active as a small puppy is the one that is still giving the most trouble. I would suggest to find a breeder that will give you hands on to get to know the puppies and their suroundings so you can visit and watch how the puppies act to each other and to you. Those first 8 weeks are very important to their health, and adaptability..
I have a two year old labradoodle. She is fabulous! Not hype as long ad they get enough exercise. My friends goldendoodle much more hyper. Check out (NAME REMOVED BY ADMIN) in california. Becky has amazing dogs! And is an unbelievable breeder.
Hi Lisa
Thank you for your reply and breeder suggestion but that was deleted. Would you mind sending me a private message with that name again?
Thank you so much!

I did a lot of research when I was considering goldendoodle vs. labradoodle and decided that I wanted a goldendoodle F1b because they are great for people with pet allergies. F1b is a cross between a dog which is 50% golden retriever 50% poodle with a dog which is 100% poodle, so the puppy ends up being 75% poodle and 25% golden retriever. They tend to have the hair and dander of poodles (in other words, they don't shed) and the mellow personality of the golden retriever. Although my grown children and I have allergies to dogs and cats, we are fine with our goldendoodle (who has been in our home for one and a half years).
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and here is the link to where I decided to get mine (it was about a 5-6 hour drive from here). I consider them to be the best goldendoodle breeder around: (LINK REMOVED)
One of the reasons I chose this breeder was that I wanted a lap dog, and they offer various sizes of goldendoodles, including "toy", "micro-mini" as well as the larger sizes. On their website, there is a link to their facebook page so you can read all about the dogs which people have gotten from this breeder so you can judge the dogs' personalities, etc. based upon the comments of actual owners (you can even ask them questions).
Our goldendoodle is EXACTLY what we had hoped for - she's playful, easy to train, and affectionate. She loves to interact with people, but will also cuddle up and fall asleep with any one of us while we're sitting in a recliner or on the couch. She's brought a lot of laughter to our home and, with her around, we can't help but live "in the moment". Her favorite game is fetch (and she'll run full speed ahead to get a ball or toy and bring it back)! She is not much of a barker and doesn't get "yappy". She is a PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) service dog and she accompanies me and acts appropriately on airplanes, in stores, restaurants, as well as when I visit assisted living facilities. Everyone just loves her - from my 90 year old mother to the 2 year old girl next door.
She is full grown now and weighs 16 lbs., still easy to pick up and carry around. She's about 16 inches long (from the back of her head to the beginning of her tail), and 16 inches tall (from the highest point on her back to the ground), so she's tall, long and narrow, compared to a lot of other small dogs.
Hi Clouisel
Your doodle is adorable! I love that she is a service. I am thinking of doing the same with our dog after he/she is a little older. I also like in the Bay Area and would love to know where you got her. COuld you send me a private message and tell me again, as it was deleted?
Thank you!
Sheila

I have a 10 month old English Mini-Goldendoodle. I have to say I have NEVER in my life met or even heard of such a wonderful, more even tempered puppy/dog in my life!! I have heard from everyone who has dealt with my breeder (from Michigan) that all her puppies have the exact same temperment. Maggie is not only calm, sweet, obedient and beautiful she also doesn't shed and has the greatest personality. Every single person who meets her wants to take her home with them!! Even as a yound puppy (I got her at 11 weeks) she has never chewed anything that wasn't given to her for that purpose, or taken anything mischieviously, bitten anyone or anything and never got a case of the "puppy crazies". I don't know how we were ever so lucky to find this dog, but I could never hope to be so blessed again. My husband and I are in our 50's and I guess were going thru the "empty nest syndrome thing", but I don't know what we would've done if we ended up with a "hyper dog". I think we would've had a lot of regrets. I sing the praises of our breeder every single day, and have kept in touch with her and become friends like we are family. I know she is only going to breed 2 more litters, but anyone who gets those puppies will be very, very lucky.
I have a seventh generation just-a-bit-taller-than-mini ALD labradoodle. He is not hyper, never was; yet is not mellow either. He does not require extensive physical outlets. He does not fetch. He loves water when it is in the form of mud and sprinklers. He is not a swimmer. I have met a few of Ned's litter mates and their energy levels were the same.
I have an Australian Labradoodle, yes she has her energetic moments, but with exercise and training she is great, she just earned a B.A. With honors in the C.L.A.S.S. program. She had puppies 11 weeks ago and they are amazing, so are a lot of other puppies from the same breeder. I have had a few of her puppies to help socialize them and people often ask if they are drugged....kidding of course.
I think find a great breeder and tell them what you are looking for, they want to make a good fit for you and the dog.
I really like [my breeder], she is awesome. Good luck with your search.
