I'm wondering if other DK-ers with two doods notice that they sometimes groom each other. Sophie is always cleaning out Winnie's eye gunk and ears (maybe it tastes good??) and kissing his face (which I notice she does a lot when he's having an itchy allergy fit but maybe he has some food stuck in his beard). Tonight I was cutting Sophie's nails and I accidently got the quick. She yelped and bled a tiny bit and sulked a whole lot. The cutest part is that Winston is now licking her paw, maybe he just likes the blood flavour, but I like to think he's kissing her boo boo all better.

What do you guys think? Are they grooming each other or are they just tasting something yummy?

Aww this is pretty cute.  My guys do not kiss or groom each other.  But they do consider eye "gunk" to be a rare delicacy and their Mom has been know to let them lick her fingers after removing it from them each morning.

yeah, I think you had mentioned doing this once and I tried it with squirmy Sophie and now she loves it when I remove her eye gunk. worked like a charm!

OMD, Jane, I knew there was a reason I love you! I did the same thing with my poodles (JD doesn't have much eye gunk) and it drove my DH absolutely wild!

HaHaHa, the boys line up for eye gunk removal.  My Vet saw me do this once...she just shook her head.

Of course. I do the same thing. It's a delicacy, really I think it may be a bit salty.

I have heard that a dog licking another dog about the head and the ears is a sign of deference and submission.  Does this ring true to any of you two dog owners?

I don't have two dogs, but what you've heard is true. In the wild, the mother regurgitates food for the puppies, and they lick her mouth to get her to "feed" them. In our domesticated dogs, one dog licking another's mouth is a sign of deference, as a puppy defers to his mother.

so Sophie Bear is deferring to her big brother. Is that a good thing?

I don't think it's a bad thing. One or the other of them has to be the "lead" dog, and he's older and larger.

Ah come on! Another way to make my doodles NOT NORMAL! I wish Chloe would lick Myla's eyes gunk! She is an eye booger machine! I have to pick it out every morning while Chloe watches! The only thing they are interested in is sniffing butts and eachother's mouth to see if they got a treat on the sly!

I think it's cute! Whatever they are "doing"

maybe if you feed the eye gunk to Chole she will get the idea that it is an acceptable snack...

the only thing that my 2 do is chew on each other's face and ears when they play.  They don't have one of those cuddly, lovey, relationships where they cuddle and groom each other.  It would be great if they did, but at least they aren't fighting so I'll try to be happy with what I've got.

Try to get a picture of their grooming process.  It sounds sweet.  :)
