Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I wish there was a way I could have taken a video of Atticus attempting to fly like a New York City pigeon, but I was laughing too hard to capture the moment, therefore, I will attempt to adequately describe what transpired   First, I must say that New York City pigeons and squirrels are fearless, whether it be man or beast;  they will stare down a charging pit bull or a roaring garbage truck!  Nothing seems to phase them, especially a chunky, uncoordinated 11 week old labradoodle who has no idea that New York city pigeons literally rule.....and when their territory is threatened,  NYC pigeons will wait until the very last moment to relinquish their claim on a sidewalk.   So there I am, at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning,  walking my adorable, rambunctious,  Atticus, when he spots a flock of pigeons claiming their territory on the sidewalk and as soon as Atticus sees what he thinks could be some new friends, he contemplates his options to determine the best way to introduce himself. Towards that end he clumsily hurls his furry, roly poly body directly at the pigeons who made lots of angry noises and reluctantly flew away.  Atticus, having no idea he didn't have wings, tried to follow his new friends by attempting to launch his body into the sky.  He wasn't deterred when he plopped back onto the sidewalk, because he subsequently attempted to launch himself about 3 times before he gave up.  I guess flying isn't in his future.     After the pigeon fiasco, we walked to  a beautiful duck pond that has been built along the water behind my apartment.  I'm attaching some pictures of Atticus staring into the duck pond; you can see a reflection in the pond of the new World Trade Center building.  And yes, the ducks did squawk at him, but he didn't try to jump into the pond (he postponed that feat for another day)!

Well at least he tried!  You never know till you try!  He might have better luck swimming with the ducks.

That will be next week.

LOL, I was laughing just picturing this little one trying to fly!

I want to have lots of confidence, so I won't tell him that flying might not be in his future repertoire!

Hahaha!     That is just too cute!     Atticus, the world is your oyster!

It definitely is....he has brought me so much joy after such an emotionally difficult year....

Atticus, I can see you are just what your new mama needs.

You are so right.   Losing Paz broke my heart; certainly my beloved Paz can never be replaced, but I've learned there is room in my heart to love another doodle who can continue Paz's amazing work. Atticus reminds me of Pazzie in so many ways, and he has Paz's soulful gentle eyes.   I truly believe that Paz's beautiful spirit is guiding us through this new journey.

This little guy must be bringing you such joy.  I LOVE that he thought he could fly....you never know until you try.

He really has lifted my heart from the depths of the sadness I have been feeling over losing my beloved Paz.  Tomorrow will be exactly a year since Paz was diagnosed with lymphoma, and I can still recall the shock and desperation I experienced when I received the call from the vet; I barely made it through Thanksgiving dinner with my family because I was so distraught.  This Thanksgiving will be filled with joy because Atticus will be joining us and there will be so many wonderful new beginnings.

I'm so happy for you, Charlotte.  We all loved Paz...he was a special boy.  I'm sure he's watching you from beyond the bridge and sending you love through this new sweet guy, Atticus.

That's hilarious!
