Auggie did not want to eat on Saturday morning and seemed a bit off the whole day. I took the boys out for a doodle romp in the afternoon and Auggie seemed to perk up and played with the other dogs just fine. I boiled some rice and chicken for him in the evening and he did eat some of it. Last night we heard him scratching constantly and at about 1pm my DH had to take him out because of loose bowels. I can smell bad gas coming out of Auggie on occasions this morning, he refused his breakfast again and is just moping around (although he did try to attack and chase Monty the first thing in the morning). But he is definitely not feeling well and I can't tell what's wrong. He is still scratching on occasions; I looked through his fur for flees, but did not see anything. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not, but it almost looks like his eyes are a bit swollen (just like mine since I did not get much sleep last night). I can't tell for sure. My DH said Auggie drank some water in the morning.
I'm going to the store to see if I can find some anti itch shampoo and give him a bath. Would you suggest a baby Benadryl or something? If so, how much? Any other ideas of what I can do before taking him to the vet tomorrow morning?

Thanks. Auggie is 75 lbs. I'll try the Claritin now.
Ahhh, we had itching and chewing (easy chewing here and there like he was irritated from a bath) with this horrible dog flu. Spud does not chew, itch or scratch. He just seemed bothered and uncomfortable but not going all out like an allergy. That is what I noticed first for a few days. Then lethargy, then diarrhea, and finally vomiting.
Just horrible days of events one after another.
Spud developed an elevated temp and finally just trashed.
An antibiotic shot with a course of Pro-Pectalian has helped so much.
Get well soon. Hope our experience with this helps you.
I have no idea why the irritated skin relates but maybe just poor skin sensory feelings? Actually, I cant figure out any of this horrible flu.
When JD came home after his scopes, he was scratching up a storm, and he had not been itchy prior to being hospitalized. It was not related at all to his IBD, but I think maybe it's something that causes every little sensation to be intensified when they're not feeling well and their usual immune defenses are not up to par.
That makes sense.
I'm glad you mentioned it because I thought the two are not related but just so happened at the same time. Maybe our situations are not related but maybe they are?
The gas and the burping were so powerful. Scarey.
Spud was diagnosed with Gastroenteritis~ bacteria related. A form of dog flu with the temps dropping.
I'm clueless to this whole miserable week.
When was this? Is Spud okay now?
So sorry to hear abut Spud, Joanne. I hope you're doing better now. What is it....bad week for us too.
Sorry that he's not feeling well. Pepcid (one tablet a day) works wonders for Murph. For the itching I use Claritin rather than Benadryl....I think it's more effective and it doesn't make them drowsy.
