Auggie did not want to eat on Saturday morning and seemed a bit off the whole day. I took the boys out for a doodle romp in the afternoon and Auggie seemed to perk up and played with the other dogs just fine. I boiled some rice and chicken for him in the evening and he did eat some of it. Last night we heard him scratching constantly and at about 1pm my DH had to take him out because of loose bowels. I can smell bad gas coming out of Auggie on occasions this morning, he refused his breakfast again and is just moping around (although he did try to attack and chase Monty the first thing in the morning). But he is definitely not feeling well and I can't tell what's wrong. He is still scratching on occasions; I looked through his fur for flees, but did not see anything. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not, but it almost looks like his eyes are a bit swollen (just like mine since I did not get much sleep last night). I can't tell for sure. My DH said Auggie drank some water in the morning.
I'm going to the store to see if I can find some anti itch shampoo and give him a bath. Would you suggest a baby Benadryl or something? If so, how much? Any other ideas of what I can do before taking him to the vet tomorrow morning?

Good news, hope he continues to feel better.
Oh yeah, so glad he's feeling better and sooo jealous of your 3 hour nap LOL!
I think Monty enjoyed the weekend without being attacked all the time as well. We all needed the nap, well, minus Mr. Monty. I was up most of last night listening to Auggie scratching and moving around, while not being able to stretch my lags thanks to Monty sleeping on the bed the whole night.
But Auggie is definitely back tonight. He ate his whole dinner and got his zoomies in the backyard.
Thank you all for your help. I would be a train wreck at times like these without your support.
So glad Auggie is feeling better
Very good news about Auggie. Hope he continues to feel better!
Poor Auggie. Hope he feels better soon.
Correction. Glad he is feeling better and hope it continues.
So glad to hear that Auggie is feeling better.
Good to hear he is feeling better. I have not been home but for a brief second to let Spud out and looked up this post. I have been watching from my phone during this busy day.
Itchy- Here is why I noticed the itching or biting. It was any area. Not just one. I could not pinpoint any place irritated and he was not consistent with the parts he was chewing/itching/licking. Spud was waking me up. There were so many times when he just stood up, on my bed, and shook like he had just gotten out of the lake or a bath. You know that look. I was confused by it all and kind of irritated myself. I sleep sound and he was waking me up. He just was so restless at night.
I'm wondering now, if that shaking was chills?
He is no longer chewing but he still does the shake.
I want to say it went on for 5 days prior to the abdominal stuff.
There was nothing I did that made his pooping, every 20 minutes, around the clock, stop. I gave Immodium and then moved on to adding 25mg Phenergan. Pheneragan should have done the trick. Phereragan has always made me stop vomiting except when I was in labor. It is a miracle drug .. I think. It did not touch the symptoms. In fact, he got worse.
The worst smells. He still smells so badly it could clear a room. Spud never has gas that I can smell. If he pooped in the dark, and I was out there with a flashlight all night long, and couldn't find the exact spot, I could find it by smell. It was that bad.
When he burped in his sleep, it woke me up then too. Loud burps like a man with a beer can in his hand.
If he heard something, he let out a weak woof. His eyes glassed over. He was pacing and pacing. Not the pacing of bloat. Just so uncomfortable. He chewed again.
This was so scarey! Friday night, I had the purse, keys, and bags packed with the Emergency numbers on my desk. I was ready.
Remember, this new DogCV virus is in my hometown. But I looked at stool and vomit and knew this was not what we were dealing with. No rapid heart rate or breathing, no blood. By Friday night, I was so concerned though as he was weak mess. And maybe I was just in denial. But we did not take our eyes off him, not one day, for one minute!
The vet said he has Gastroenteritis caused by a bacteria. It's a form of dog flu. Not the typical viral flu.
I always thought though, the flu was respiratory, not gastrointestinal. Whatever, as long as he treated him.
And he did. He is still weak, but just past me in the living room with a squeaky toy :) He is not even 50% yet. The vet said at least 4-5 more days but he is better. The vomiting and runny stool have stopped. He is still really tired and is not eating much.
Just putting all this out there in case anyone recognizes this in their dog. I have an angel for a dog, really. He doesn't chew his toys, doesn't steal food, and the likelihood he ingested anything was very low.
Go to the vet and get treated. My vet gave a shot of antibiotics and a series of Pro-Pectalin Tablets to be given throughout the day. Nothing fancy but it is working.
Here is my status from those Friday and Saturday.

Thank You, F. Thank you for listening all week too.
My goodness, Joanne! So scary! Hope darling Spud is on the mend now. I would be scared of the outbreak as well.
I really have no idea what was going on with Auggie, but he is pretty much back to his spunky self this evening. Thanks to the Claritin, the swelling of his eye is gone and I have not seen him scratching at all. What a huge change in few hours. He ate his dinner just fine so we will need to wait and see what his poop looks like. Hopefully not in the middle of the night.
Yep, keep an eye on him. The eye thing bothers me. I can't pinpoint it exactly, and I think my husband was sick of me saying, his look, his eyes. I must have said that a 100 times, " his eyes look so strange"
So, just keep an EYE on him ( har har). The first couple of days, he was more active with the symptoms.
Maybe from lack of sleep he became more tired. I know, I did.
Please, let me know. I'm thinking of you.
Spud does not get sick, really. Not since a puppy and a strict diet. This was rather extreme in every sense.
I just identified so much because you said, itching and chewing. Who knew? I can't. Now I just think of Goose Bumps. Wish they could talk and tell us.
