Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Looking for any suggestions/opinions. I have begun research on the 3 types of dogs and am having a hard time deciding what's best for my family. Anyone have any comments on which type is better? Thanks!

Thank you! I think the Goldendoodles are just darling! Does yours shed?

Yes, GoldenDoodles can shed too!  I am lucky to have an F1 Standard who does not shed.  She has soft wavy fleece hair that is not real thick and so it is easy to brush/comb, groom and doesn't mat like the thicker ones seem to.  It is all hit or miss with Doodles  All you can do is your homework on the breeder and their past litters to see if there is a consistency at all.

but just because Heather's husbands allergies are ok with their goldendoodles, that doesn't mean that would be the case for everyone.  It is also possible that he could have issues with other goldendoodles.  There is no 100% guarantee with allergies and doodles.

No Not at all and Both of mine are F1 Goldendoodles. The mom was the Golden Retriever and the dad the standard poodle. They truly are AWESOME!!!!

Double doodles don't have more poodle in them than an F1 labradoodle or goldendoodle, if both parents are F1s. On each side, you have 50% retriever and 50% poodle, just like an F1 labradoodle or F1 goldendoodle. You can really get any kind of coat from that. I know lots of double doodles that are flat coated and shed heavily, they got retriever genes from both parents.

If higher generations goldendoodle or labradoodle are used in the breeding, then you possibly would have more poodle and a better chance of non-shedding, but still no guarantees.

And of course, Theo hasn't gone thru his coat change yet. At three months they are all soft and low-to-non-shedding.

I really think it's important to emphasize that if a non-shedding coat is a must-have, a doodle is just not the best choice, any kind of doodle. We don't want to see more doodles in rescue, especially for something like allergies.

Ok, now I am confused, LOL!

An F1 Doodle is a first generation Doodle.  One parent is pure Poodle and the other is pure Lab or Golden Retriever.  An F1b is where you take an F1 Doodle and breed it back to a pure Poodle.  Multi-gen is where they have been breeding Doodle to Doodle to Doodle to Doodle creating generations.  I know nothing about an Australian Labradoodle so I can't give you much info there.

Here is a picture of one DK member's double doodle. One parent was an F1 labradoodle and the other was an F1 goldendoodle. She definitely sheds, lol.

Thank you Sandy! ADORABLE doodles! Theo is precious- Not too confusing, I understand the double doodle thing! Do only certain doodle breeders breed doubledoodles?

Again, many thanks! Do you recommend a certain way to find a very good breeder? I'm sure word of mouth, but are there doodle sites that I should search on?

Here is the best guideline for finding a reputable breeder:

There are links in the article to the Owner Recommended Breeders Group and some of the other groups for breeders.

Thanks- I will be sure to read thru this!
