Quincy spent the day at PetSmart daycare- his 4th or 5th time there. He pulls me into the door in the AM and comes out exhausted and happy. The staff knows him by name, and is attentive and caring when I am there. I do not have concerns about the care he is given....that being said.,
Tonight he barfed white stuff while still there, again in the car and a few time once home. We let take some water, he barfed that later, and is (as he has always been post day care) very subdued..
the vomit is clear (sorry queasy stomachs), in between he is fine but very tired, just resting his head and not looking for food. He was like that on the other times he was there though-he just seems to be tired from play.
so I feel like am just on watch for the night --- i am hoping it is over excitement from running around like a loon all day at day camp? yesterday he did get into a lot of sticks outside that he pulverized.
I am not planing on feeding him his dinner tonight...just water if he wants, but he had not gone near.
my gooodness---I am thinking this will be an all nighter with vomit interludes. Shades of our son when we where a lot younger...
any words of encouragement that this is just a TOO FUN FILLED day for the doodle? i remember that my son might have those over excited kind of days, but is it the same for a dog?

I have no ideas for you, but I certainly home Quincy is feeling better really soon!
thank you- it's the retching that is a little scary...
Did he happen to drink a bunch of water right before he got sick the first time? Sometimes I've noticed that if they have been playing hard (either at daycare or wrestling in the house) and drink a lot of water too quickly they will throw it up not long after.
See if you can get him to eat a couple of small pieces of ice to keep him hydrated. Check his gums to make sure they are still pink and moist. If they look pale he is dehydrated and I would call the vet.
Drinking a lot of water after exercise always makes JD retch and bring up foamy stuff, too, but JD has digestive issues.
I would probably put out food and see what happens. But my dogs are always ready to eat after they vomit, which they do rarely.
Is it possible he might have gotten some kind of food or treats at daycare that he doesn't normally eat?
they do not give them any treats but what I left off- which was just kibble and Blue Trail Treat. It is a hacking . of retching but with no respiratory distress. he sleeps in between. my Dh thinks he sounds like it is something stuck. he is NOT IN DISTRESS other than the hacking, about
every 30 minutes or so with a water/foam vomit.
I hope he feels better soon.
Poor Quincy. I can imagine your worry. I would keep a good eye and get him to the vet if things do not improve.
I agree with this.
Hoping you both have a restful night and he's himself in the morning.
Hmm, doesn't it sound like a kennel cough? When was he there last? Our vet said the incubation period is about 5 days, but my boys got it 3 days after being in a daycare. The cough sounds like there is something stuck in the throat, the dog will usually cough up white foamy stuff. The retching gets worse when they try to move faster.
Hopefully Quincy will be better in the morning. Keep us posted.
But you are correct about throwing up water after exercise. When Monty is all excited after the play and drinks a whole bunch of water, he "burps" some up immediately. But that is only a one time thing, it should not go on.
