Quincy spent the day at PetSmart daycare- his 4th or 5th time there. He pulls me into the door in the AM and comes out exhausted and happy. The staff knows him by name, and is attentive and caring when I am there. I do not have concerns about the care he is given....that being said.,
Tonight he barfed white stuff while still there, again in the car and a few time once home. We let take some water, he barfed that later, and is (as he has always been post day care) very subdued..
the vomit is clear (sorry queasy stomachs), in between he is fine but very tired, just resting his head and not looking for food. He was like that on the other times he was there though-he just seems to be tired from play.
so I feel like am just on watch for the night --- i am hoping it is over excitement from running around like a loon all day at day camp? yesterday he did get into a lot of sticks outside that he pulverized.
I am not planing on feeding him his dinner tonight...just water if he wants, but he had not gone near.
my gooodness---I am thinking this will be an all nighter with vomit interludes. Shades of our son when we where a lot younger...
any words of encouragement that this is just a TOO FUN FILLED day for the doodle? i remember that my son might have those over excited kind of days, but is it the same for a dog?

The fact that it sounds/seems like 'there is something stuck' sure sounds like kennel cough. When they're hacking, they spit out clear fluids. If it doesn't subside by tomorrow, a trip to the vet would be a good idea :)
Baker had it & he was current on his vaccinations. Let us know how it goes :)
I think you are right, diane, after reading up on kennel cough. He is coughing much less since we came downstairs. articles said it is sometimes worse during the night. Just like a croupy baby.
apparently the vaccine has limited value-different organisms can cause it other than the bordatella (sp?).
Of course I don't want to crate and leave him to go to work.
The bordatella vaccine is kind of like a flu shot; neither one protects against all strains of the virus.
one of our pups is a rescue. he had a bad case of kennel cough that lasted for 3 months. lots of hacking, but not once did he vomit. i don't know if that's common or not, but I'm inclined to think its not kennel cough.
multiple clear vomits worry me. i would probably call the vet for advice in the morning.
dogs can have kibble in their stomach for around 8hours after a meal. ours will vomited a 7am breakfast as late as 3-4pm if he's sick.
that makes me wonder if he's been eating anything. you said he hasn't been eating. is he pooping? is it diarrhea?
is it possible that he has some sort of blockage and lost his appetite? is the blockage still in his stomach, and he's trying to force it out ?
our big guy got into the trash a few times in his first year. he'd tear into tinfoil takeout containers, and the next morning vomit up some food, along with a "hairball" that was random hair from grooming all wrapped around tinfoil and plastic pieces. a few times he's had the same type of hairball that was built around bits of sticks that he chewed up.
anyways, i'd read up on the symptoms for blockages and be on the lookout tonight to see if any develop.
no GI symptoms-what he did bring up was always clear. thanks
Hope things are looking better this morning. Please keep us posted.
Stanlee vomits when over excited - in fact, my daughter and I thought it would be fun to get a dozen tennis balls and toss them onto the floor all at the same time. I thought Stanlee was going to lose consciousness due to apoplexy. He didn't know which ball to grab first, second, third, or what to do with the ones that wouldn't fit into his mouth. his over excitement and complete focus on these balls got so bad that I had to remove all them them for him to calm down.He got so excited and spastic that after he drank some water he puked but the difference is he just kept going; not lathargic in the least. It was especially wonderful since we didn't know he had puked until my son came cussing into the kitchen to clean it out from between his toes...both times. Once the balls were out of reach he did calm down, in fact, he was so tired he was almost comatose.
So long story shot - tons of excitement + over stimulation + water taken in to quickly = foamy vomit for kids to step in.
Hope he is feeling better, let us know so we don't worry!
well at least you made me laugh! I can picture 12 tennis balls and a very excited Stanlee!
Unfortunately, Quincy wretched* on the average of every 45 minutes ALL NIGHT. he either brought up clear mucus or nothing (most of the time). He was at the camp on Monday-so I am about to research kennel cough. Vet opens in another 1/2 hour and I will call them.
*It sounds almost like croup, kind of barky while he wretches.
thanks everyone.
Good luck to you and Quincy! Glad the night is over and you can call the vet and figure it out!
Marnie, this is too funny! My daughter and I come up with some "great" ideas too! I'll hold off on getting a dozen balls!
