Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello all,

Well, it's been an interesting 2.5 weeks since we brought Riley into our family. The biggest problem is she refuses to poop outside. We can walk or play in the yard for an hour with her only peeing, but the minute she comes inside she poops. Every. Single. Day. She is only 3 months old so I can understand daily accidents, but it seems like she is holding it in just to come inside to poop! She even begs to come inside and gets mad at me when I won't let her! (Barks, won't walk away from the door, etc..)

Other than that little detail, she is perfect! She has gained 7 pounds (25.5 pounds now!) and stopped scratching all of the time since we switched her to a grain free puppy food. She has gained a few inches in height too! The vet said she is still a pound or two underweight though. Estimates for adult weight are now in the 70 pound range.

Her hair is getting really long for a puppy and needs to be brushed twice a day or it starts to look ragged LOL She had her first grooming appointment where she received a puppy cut (face, paws, sanitary) so she is staying a bit cooler now a days. I don't think she enjoyed it too much though since there are a couple of gaps on her nose where you can tell she jerked away!

Just for fun, Anyone have photos of their doodle that started out with long (about 3 inches) straight hair as a puppy? I'm a bit curious on what her hair may possibly look like when she is older.

Here is an updated picture of Riley (sorry about the size!)

Thanks for reading!

Rhonda

cutie pie!  let us know if the suggestions given work out!  good luck

Hello!

I want to thank all of you that gave me advice on Riley's potty issue. I combined two of the suggestions and am very happy to report that Riley is doing great! She gives potty cues and hasn't had an accident in 5 days!

I kept her on the lead and by my side 85% of her day, only letting her off to eat or go outside. I placed her in her kennel when I couldn't keep her next to me. I also moved her poop to the area that I wanted her to do her business in. (She picked up on that the first day!)

Riley and I, and my carpets, thank you very much for all of your help!

P.S. Remember the dog Sprocket from Fraggle Rock? Everyone tells me that Riley could be his twin:

Oh he is so cute!  Congrats on the potty successes!

Wow you are making fast progress! She is one smart girl! So glad things have improved for you and yes, I can see the similarity to Sprocket too! So cute!

hello Rhonda riley is very cute and i'm gald  the house training has been going very well keep up the good work

Wonderful!!! I love Riley's coloring, she's adorable!!!!
Rhonda, I'm so happy this is working for you. My ten month old doodle is still, for the most part with me 100% and if I can't keep my eye on him I put him in his crate. We have very few accidents. The ten week old that came home yesterday...don't ask! Lol
Riley is SUPER cute! Keep up the good work, it will pay off in the long run.

Aww, what a cutie.

Riley is gorgeous - is she a Phantom? I think she has a beautiful presence.

Sounds like you have had a break through - once she figured out what you wanted, she says 'aha',     Our girl has a stubborn streak a mile wide - but will do anything, she just won't do anything until she figures out what we want - then she says 'oh, hey I can do that'.

Thank you! Yes, she is considered a Phantom Doodle. I actually posted asking for opinions on her coat because I hadn't come across any doodle with her coloring or long, soft, straight hair during my searches. Her new vet thinks she has Golden Retriever, Labrador, and Poodle in her. I suspect the couple I purchased her from got her from a backyard breeder. Especially since they only asked me to repay them the vet costs and not the amount they purchased her for.

She is loved either way =)
