Bandit Has a Bad Owee! - UPDATE

So I caught Bandit all of the sudden chewin on his leg and upon futher inspection it was a scab, a big scab he was chewin off.  I got he flea comb out and combed out the rest and underneath is a pretty deep (hard to tell how deep) puncture.  I called the vet and they said I could bring him in but maybe try to clean it and then put a pressure bandage on it.  It is about 1/4" wide and again I can't see how deep but is was oozing some blood.  Any thoughts on a cause or suggestions for treatment?  How concerned should I be?  I tried taking a pic but  it was hard to get an accurate pic.

Thanks for all the advice and well wishes! Good news is that Bandit is an excellent patient. I trimmed hair around the wound, put peroxide and neosporin on it. It was looking a little yellow and gooey. So I put a cotton ball on it and wrapped it back up. He won't leave my side and is sleeping. He did have a mild case of zoomies this morning so we will keep monitoring.

I would use triple antibiotic cream A cotton ball is not the best because it will stick to the wound. a small gauze square should do. I would not use a pressure bandage. Exposure to air is generally a good thing for wound healing. A little licking is OK, saliva is also good for healing but you don't want to let him lick excessively. A tetanus shot, if it is a deep wound might be a good idea.

So we are back from the Vet. The shaved the hair around it and cleaned it up. They said it wasn't deep enough for stiches and said it probably happened a few days ago. So she said Neo - 3x's a day and he has to wear a t-shirt to keep him from licking it. Licking is not good so he will be sporting a Luckenbach Texas t-shirt for a few days.

I am just relieved my little cowboy's boo boo isn't more serious! Thank you all - peeps & doods - for all the support!!

So glad to hear that Bandit is on the mend. I just took Gracie Doodle's nurses cap off and can hopefully put it away for a long time!

Have you been there?? We have several times. It's great, a real cowboy kinda place. But Bandit peed on the luckenbach shirt:( I forgot to take it off when he went out. Now he is wearing a TX longhorn shirt. He is hiding behind the couch so I can't take his pic!
