Has anyone tried "Best Bully Sticks" ? I have bought bullysticks from bullysticksonline.com and liked them, but I have found this other website and they look pretty good. My question is "Do the Best Bully Sticks stink??" They do not sell them as "odor-free" and my youngest son is very sensitive to smell and has a hard time with the odor-free ones. I hate to spend the money and then have to get rid of them because of their smell.
I've ordered the large dog sampler pack from Best Bully sticks and was pretty pleased with them. As far as smell goes, I should preface it by saying that our first bully stick was store bought and the smell was beyond awful. These came in a sealed plastic bag and surprisingly, the smell was pretty limited. I will say that once she starts chewing one, if she's right next to you than you do notice a slight smell but if she's chewing on her bed, the smell isn't pervasive like the store bought ones. I guess it all just depends on truly how sensitive your son is...pretty much anything natural I'd say is going to have some sort of smell which is probably a little healthier for your dog than whatever they do to completely get the smell out.

I JUST started using Bully Sticks (because of the rawhide controversy), I get Allie the braided Bully Sticks off the shelf and the first time I gave her one, my Husband came home and asked what that awful smell was!!!!! I did try a different brand (I'm not sure what brand right now) and they were sealed in plastic zip lock, it didn't smell bad, but they weren't tough like rawhide... In fact - Allie ate it all in 10 minutes!!! I was looking for something in place of the rawhide, so that won't do for me! But for the smell - my Husband noticed it as soon as he walked in the door to the house, and it wasn't at all pleasant to him.

I received advice from other members of this site about my Allie going through Bully Sticks too fast...they said to put them in the freezer when she isn't eating them. Allie was eating them in 2 days. When I began freezing them, they are lasting about a week now.

I've been listening to other members advice - they said to only let them have their Bully Stick for 20 - 30 minutes. I usually let her have it for 45 minutes. If they are the hard ones (like the braided dried out Bully Sticks) they last about a week when frozen. The Bully Sticks that were packaged that I purchased only lasted 10 minutes each!!!!!
Wow. It's amazing to me how fast other doodles go through their bully sticks. Whopper works on the same one for days it seems. We gave her one on Saturday and she still had it this morning when I left for work and we've never frozen it. I wonder what that'll do! She does alternate between her bully stick and everlasting treat ball though so that probably extends it a little.
I have been buying braided bully sticks from them. To me, they don't smell. However, my dog goes thru them in 15 minutes. I bought a very thick 9" bully stick at the local pet store for $7. Sadie has had it for a week now. It smells worse than the ones I buy online. I am going to try to buy extra thick non-braided bully sticks from Best Bully Sticks. The woman at the pet store told me that braided bully sticks are eaten quickly because the braiding causes lots of weak points and the dogs can shred them very quickly.
In my case, I buy mine at Mills Fleet Farm (I have gotten them from our local feed store also) and they were quite reasonably priced at $8 for a 36 inch one. I bring them home and cut them on my scroll saw to 9 inches. They last a couple of days. I also buy hoofs - and they stink too. I feel the less stinky they are, the more they have been treated with stuff you really don't want your dog to consume. One package of hoofs I bought smelled like hospital - but after she got it all slobbery, it was back to smelling like a barn. I won't buy these again - I always smell them first - if they stink, then they are ok. LOLOL She loves these - the stinkier the better! That's just a dog.
I notice they also sell bully bites. I thought you should throw them away when they get that small, but they are selling them and they look to only be 2-3 inches long?? Are they nuts?
Some say they can become a choking hazard if they get too small. If we are home, we'll let Whopper keep it for the most part but if we're going out, we make sure she has a big enough one that she won't be able to turn into a choking hazard in the time we're gone. When we gave her the first couple and she was a bit younger, we didn't let her have them once they were only a couple inches.
I think it is due to choking hazard. I have always thrown them away as well. Today was the first day I threw one away - it damn near killed me to see that money going in the garbage. I'm gonna check with my vet and see what she says.
