Hi all,
Next week we will be starting Whopper in her first class. At home we most frequently give her Zuke's treats but as they can be expensive and I figure a lot of treats will be used in class, does anyone else have any good, non-messy suggestions. I have thought about using hotdogs only at class time but don't really want her to have more than one in a day so probably need to supplement it with something else. Cheese? Chicken? I'd like to test some recommendations before class to make sure she really likes it and responds positively. Our back up plan will be to mix some cheerios in with a hotdog so they pick up some of the flavor and use those since for some reason she loves them.
Holy Cow - I've been making my own treats from the DK cookbook. Well now I'm doing the food study and I'm going to better food for Fergie and Lucy and all that. So, I went shopping for good quality treats to supplement with those that I make. No more milk bones for Fergie and Lucy. But those expense treats are not happening very often. Those things are really expensive. TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVEN'T TRIED TO MAKE YOUR OWN - Do it. It really will save you money - They love love love liver and it's very very cheap..
We use treats of different levels of tastyness, depending on the difficulty of what we are asking. Kibble for easy stuff, chicken for slightly harder, then Zukes, and finally for the really tuff stuff we use cheese. We buy it freeze dried (Purebites) so it doesn't get all smelly and slimy in your pocket! They also do freeze dried chicken and liver (liver was a good high level treat, but it began to make him sick). The Purebites are pretty expensive too though.
