So yesterday my 8th month old Doodle ate a dish rag!! Now today she has some mucus and some blood in her stool. I read that this my cause the intestine to be irritated. She is acting good and did eat her breakfast. It took a few minutes ( she usually inhales it but took her time with it this morning). What do you think do I need to take her in or give her a day or two?? Thanks so much!!

I would take her in asap. If she has a blockage you need to find out sooner rather than later. Have you called your vet to get their opinion?

If that dishrag didn't come out  in full, if any part of it is still inside her, you need to get her to the vet ASAP.

This can cause more than an "irritation". This can cause a blockage, necessitating a $3000 surgery. It can also cause blood flow to be cut off to part of the intestines, causing permanent damage and serious GI disease.

She should have been given hydrogen peroxide the minute she ate it, to cause her to vomit it up.

I agree with Karen and Amy....I would be taking her to the emergency vet immediately.

I hope your puppy is ok. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but there have been some tragic stories here on DK with puppies eating something like a sock or squeaker from a toy. I know I still think of little Lucy, that one really got to me. I meant it as more of a sense of urgency, like don't wait, take her in now.

Nicki, please update us when you can--I'm feeling very worried about your pup!

Thank you for all of the concerns and advice for Matilda! She is just great and they didn't find anything. She just had a normal poop and is being her happy self. Thanks so much and what a relief We were so scared!!

Oh that is great news!

Great news! Glad she's ok! :)

Thank you for the update, and am so glad she is fine.
