The other night I was washing blueberries when Vern and Fudge came around to see if something good was happening. I never feed them from the table, but I took two blueberries and gave them each one. Now, when I say I gave them each one, I mean Vern stood and looked at me like, “what am I supposed to do with this blue thing?” Fudge took it gingerly in her mouth and decided to take her newfound treat to the dining room just in case Vern was hot on her tail. Vern was still back in the kitchen deciding whether or not I was trying to poison him or if this was April Fools Day! Once he saw that Fudge was interested in her blueberry, he decided to give it a shot and took the blueberry from me as if I had just handed him a loaded gun. He promptly ran into the dining room and spit it on the floor. From there, both dogs decided a better place to eat a blueberry would be in the sunroom and picked their bounty up and ran out the door only to spit it on the carpet out there. I was envisioning having to get the carpet cleaned by the time each of them downed one stinking blueberry.
Fudge finally ate her new treat, but Vern decided there were some things he absolutely refused to swallow and lo and behold, it was a blueberry. Who knew the dog that eats mud, grass, goose poop, and Kleenex had a discerning palate? I guess he had to draw the line somewhere. Luckily, Fudge decided one blueberry was not enough and was more than happy to eat Vern’s. Fudge has the body of someone who loves fruits and vegetables. Vern’s body is more of a meat and cheese kind of shape. I think Vern takes after me, because I like my blueberries with a little sugar on them or with ice cream or even surrounded by a muffin. Unfortunately for Vern, I have to draw the line somewhere, too.
Is there some food or treat that your dog surprisingly will not eat?

Luna will take your blueberries, Vern!
Luna is a veggie and fruit-a-holic... but the one thing she won't eat? Green beans! Most dogs love green beans but nope.. not Luna. I've tried steamed, raw, canned... not interested. She will eat other green things like lettuce, cucumbers and baby spinach though.
Vern says Luna can have them :) He hates green beans, too, and I have tried all kinds. I can't even imagine what would happen if I tried any of the other green things you mentioned. LOL
It's really odd because she LOVES pretty much anything that comes from a plant... but won't touch the beans!
I think Vern's reaction is a typical doggie reaction to veggies, Luna was just a rabbit in a previous life ;)
Yep....just like people, I guess. Hattie and Theo are good eaters and tell Theo I don't like sweet potatoes, either..not even with marshmallows :)
My dogs love blueberries. They really love most fruit. Peri will eat almost anything - not sure if she's ever refused something. Taquito hates bananas - and they funny thing is that bananas are actually on his approved diet list for the kidneys!
Bananas are one of the things I just love, especially if I am not feeling well. Don't tell, but I slice them and add a little sugar. I wonder if Taquito would like it my way :) Good girl, Peri!
Charlotte hates bananas also....I think that is unheard of for babies. She spits them out and makes the worst face. I can't even give her, say, peaches & bananas mixed. She HATES them!
LOL...I guess they know what they like :)
LOL...I can't even imagine having a white rug with two dogs...blueberries or not!
Bailey loves blueberries! I will hold them one at a time and have her slowly nibble each one with her front teeth. It is my favorite snack to feed her because I just love to see those little front teeth nibbling away. I could watch her eat all day! I especially love to hear her crunch on carrots and apples.....and chew a soft banana piece too! It is one of my simple joys to sit with her and watch her eat. (Am I crazy...or do I just have too much time on my hands??)
